Frenchy68 0 #1 October 4, 2004 This week end, at the MOAB boogie (BTW amazing!). Jumping a Turbo ZX 165, loaded at about 1:1.15. First jump of the day on Sunday, solo FF from 13k, uneventfull, pulled at 4k, loooooonnnnnnnngggggggg snivel (probably around 1,000ft). Then finaly the canopy opens hard, Wham, into a left turn. Which turns into a faster and faster left spin. As my Pro-Track goes off at 2,800ft (my hard deck is at 2,500ft), the spin becomes more violent. I can not see any line twists or a line over, and I can see that both toggles are still stowed. As I was at my hard deck, I put one hand on each handle, made sure I had a firm grip on both (as the little voice in my head kept saying "you don't have an RSL"...). I peeled red, made sure one more time I had a good grip on Silver, pulled red, waited about 2 secs (until I felt I really was back in freefall), and pulled silver. Pro-Track showed deployment at 2,500ft. Uneventfull ride under the reserve. Follwed my free bag and main, decided that I could land close to them as it was wide open and fairly flat. Landed about 30 feet from both. However, I lost both handles, and therefore wasn't able to get a re-pack... Oh well. Now off to the liquor store to get my rigger some booze...
