michaeldupreez 0 #1 January 22, 2007 Hi All I am very new to the sport and completed levels 4,5 and 6 of my AFF program this Saturday. At this stage each and every jump is really intense for me. Pre jump nerves once you realise that you are going to have to do a front roll, a back loop and a delta all in the same dive for the first time really gets my heart rate going. What I am currently experiencing is that after the weekends adrenaline overload I seem to feel quite blue on a Monday. Is this normal or am I just a 40 something year old fart who's body and mind are subtly trying to tell him to rather take up fishing?
kkeenan 14 #2 January 22, 2007 The more you jump, the less you will be interested in what goes on in the office on Monday._____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
MotherGoose 0 #3 January 22, 2007 QuoteThe more you jump, the less you will be interested in what goes on in the office on Monday. I second that . . . its Monday, I'm at the office and all I can think about is skydiving. Monday blues suck . . . You think you understand the situation, but what you don't understand, is that the situation just changed.
VincentVL. 0 #4 January 22, 2007 You're having a mid life crisis mate. As long as you don't become a boozehound you've got nothing to worry about. As for the adrenalin. It's like popping E. It gives you a real buzz but when it wears off, you'll feel down. Or so I've been told. Now take a few breaths and get back to work slacker!
steve1 5 #5 January 22, 2007 I think even young jumpers feel the same as you when they begin jumping. It's not a natural act to jump from an airplane. I think my first few jumps were night jumps, because I had my eyes closed. One problem with AFF is that it is throwing so much at you at once. After you make 50 jumps or so, the fear will lessen considerably. Make several hundred and it's no longer scary, but just a whole lot of fun. As far as the mid life crisis, that may or may not be the case. I think most of us when we approach middle age realize that our days are limited and we end up wanting to make the most of the time we have left....Steve1
Yossarian 0 #6 January 22, 2007 At the moment im suffering from that very phenomenon, mostly as i have essay deadlines and presentations but also because i have yet again spent the weekend at a very windy dropzone (anyone who's been to langar since thursday can see some obvious physical evidence of that...). when i have jumped, i tend to sleep like a baby on the car journey home (unless im driving, then a fast food break is usually in order some way down the motorway. i also find it doesnt take normally so many g&t's to get me pissed as normal after ive been jumping
Hayfield 0 #7 January 22, 2007 Congrats on getting 3 levels done in a day, I never was able to do more than 2 jumps in a day when in AFF because I'd get adrenaline shakes-still do if i don't eat b4 making a couple of jumps. As for blues on a monday after a dZ weekend, I'm willing to bet that's normal. Not to mention mondays tend to suck at work anyway. Don't worry about the "old body" BS, my AFF instructor this year is 62, my cousin in AFF is 51, and many fine jumpers at my DZ are in their 40's... Yeah, you might be a bit sore at times on monday, but goddamn it's worth it! Hell, i'm still more stoked about getting my A than I was graduating college. Have your fun while you can-regret of inaction is the worst. Anyway, just wait till winter, you'll gaze out the window at the cloudy, cold skies, wishing you could jump... Then its time to call the friends you've ignored in favor of the DZ all summer!"Remember the First Commandment: Don't Fuck Up!" -Crusty Old Pete

Then its time to call the friends you've ignored in favor of the DZ all summer! Im no expert but, arent winters in South Africa pretty "balmy" ?? As for us Northern folks, we can relate pretty well to your comment. That first jump back after a couple of weeks or more off, the adrenaline kick is ridiculous. Almost have trouble packing after the first jump because of the shakes. LOVE IT.You think you understand the situation, but what you don't understand, is that the situation just changed. FallingDuck 0 #10 January 23, 2007 When I was doing my AFF I would always be tired later in the day. It seems to happen whenever I do three or more jumps in one day. Maybe your disinterest is the same thing. If it is, it will get better once you get to 30 or 40 jumps.

MTGirl 2 #13 January 23, 2007 QuoteHi All What I am currently experiencing is that after the weekends adrenaline overload I seem to feel quite blue on a Monday. Is this normal or am I just a 40 something year old fart who's body and mind are subtly trying to tell him to rather take up fishing? Well think about it...Adrenaline gives you a natural high. Just like any other stimulant (in my case caffeine haha!), when it's out of our system, we crash, we feel tired, our mood shifts. So there's an actual physiological explanation. Of course there's also the psychological explanation combined with it as well where our day-to-day activities aren't nearly as fun as falling throug the air In other words, you're totally normal...well at least you're considered normal by other skydivers that is. nerd137 0 #14 January 24, 2007 When I started AFF, I couldn't do more than 1 jump a day because it would just wipe me out. I'd go home and nap afterwards. Even these days, if I jump 10 or 12 times in a weekend, I'm gonna drag ass all day Monday. I definitely think there's some recovery time involved after you blow your entire adrenal load. Uh, so to speak.
ryanocerous 0 #15 January 24, 2007 I never got the whole adrenaline rush thing from skydiving. Maybe i should take up robbing banks. hmm.

PeterB 0 #17 January 24, 2007 QuoteI never got the whole adrenaline rush thing from skydiving. Maybe i should take up robbing banks. hmm. Just wait. 27 jumps isn't a lot and I'm pretty sure if you keep jumping you'll have a OMFG-I-AM-GONNA-DIE-OMFG moment. Tends to be that way.
JohnMitchell 16 #18 January 24, 2007 So, you spend all weekend skydiving, then going to work Monday is kind of a boring letdown? Duh! Our world, and welcome to it.Don't worry, you'll get used to it, just like we did. Oh, and don't try to explain to your coworkers how great skydivng is. They won't understand and they already think you're crazy. Just hang out with jumpers all the time. Your life will be so much richer.
