Quake120 0 #1 January 13, 2007 After reading the 'freefall communication' thread, I wondered if throat mics would work well enough for freefall communication. Anybody ever try this?
packing_jarrett 0 #2 January 13, 2007 when I was doing my WS training. I was being coached through with a throat mic. It worked well. Especially for the slower airspeeds. The only problem is when your up that high you will pick up a lot of other stuff. And while in freefall you'd here Joe Blow talking to Mr. Huck Bob, so it would be hard to hear your coach or what ever. You'd probably need like a private frequency or something.Na' Cho' Cheese
Quake120 0 #3 January 13, 2007 I was worried about that too. I've had two way radios before that picked up so many different people (mostly little kids playing with them) when I was on the ground. I can imagine being in the air with no obstructions between you and the source of a signal, it could get pretty noisy. Might have to buy some that have a lot of different frequency choices. lekstrom10k 0 #4 January 13, 2007 Harold Lange at what is now Sky Dive Tecumseh had "CB" radios that had people saying "Do you want fries with your order"? We had some radios that were cheap and we turned the squelch down and talked anyway. A student would turn left , when asked why later would say thats what they heard even if you were the only one talking . Luckily one was told to cut away high. Finally got better radios after that. All of the commercially available ones that I have used have not performed very well in either freefall or during wingsuit flights. If you are looking at purchasing a throat mic to use fro skydiving my advice is to save your money. If you do a search on this topic you will find several other peoples opinions as well."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
