Eule 0 #26 November 18, 2006 QuoteEDITED TO ADD: Calcium!! And lots of it I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice. I broke my left tib/fib this spring and asked my orthopod if it would be a good idea to drink a lot of milk. He said "Sure, if you like milk", but that it wouldn't help the healing that much. If I remember correctly he said that the body gets a fairly steady amount of calcium from food and that it doesn't go up that much if you have broken bones, and that if you eat more calcium than your body can use you end up peeing it away anyway. I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice. EulePLF does not stand for Please Land on Face.
pilatus_p 0 #27 November 18, 2006 Not wanting to start a ping-pong argument, cos God knows you NEVER get those on DZ.com, my spinal surgeon told me to take extra calcium ... C'est la vie. No I'm not a doctor either.http://www.teamtechnology.co.uk/troll.htm
Orange1 0 #28 November 18, 2006 just another newbie who broke some bones and not a doctor either, my surgeon said it couldn't hurt to take more calcium but he didn't think it necessary. He did however tell me to be careful to eat a healthy balanced diet while I was recovering. I did both and healed faster than he expected, but I think that has more to do with cats, but that is really a thread drift too far Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun. I have a broken scaphoid in my wrist which takes 3-6 months to heal because of poor blood flow to the area of the bone that is broken.
