Beerlight 0 #26 November 3, 2006 QuoteJust one quick newbie question - are there issues with skydiving when you have congestion from a head cold like there are with scuba? Even small amounts of congestion can affect pressure equalization of the middle ear space and/or sinuses. Easy to stop your descent while scuba, not so much while in freefall. I'm sure you know about "barotrauma", but a google of it should bring up the faa.gov site and their aerospace medicine thread. Tons of info there. QuoteDon't know if the pressure change is enough to create much of a problem. If there is an issue I may not be able to go again this weekend - bummer! Yes. Pressure change just not as quick in air. astromusette 0 #27 November 3, 2006 Be kind to a newbie, please, Steverino! Dumb question, I suppose, but asked because I didn't notice the need to equalize on the ride up or the jump. Maybe just so used to equalizing as a matter of course. Can hardly breathe sitting still now, though, so probably won't be jumping or diving this weekend! steveorino 7 #28 November 3, 2006 When you are NOT congested your ears will typically equalize themselves without you doing much. Good decision to sit a week out. Better miss one weekend because of a head cold than several weekends because of a ruptured or damaged eardrum. (trust me, I know first hand ) BTW, I wasn't being unkind. Notice the These forums are full of frank advice, a lot of joking, and occaisionally a down right butthole reply. Better get used to it. steveOrino
