LawnDart21 0 #1 December 1, 2005 I got an offer to buy a container I am selling for 3 times what I am asking for with the intent that I send back the difference........... I told the person "no thanks". If anyone else has had a similar experience, I'd like to hear about it. Thanks, Tom -- My other ride is a RESERVE. blithedj 0 #2 December 1, 2005 So they want to overpay you and then have you send them back more money? I'm confused on how this accomplishes anything. Yeah, maybe someone else who has had this issue can shed some light?
LawnDart21 0 #3 December 1, 2005 Yup, its a scam, I searched the forums (go figure...lol) and found the same scam, with a different name. Thanks! -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
justinb138 0 #4 December 1, 2005 I've had 3 since I put an ad up there yesterday afternoon. I just report it to abuse@dz.com and usually abuse@yahoo.com depending on their email account. Suprisingly, Yahoo has been pretty good about killing the scammer's accounts. They pay with a fake cashiers or other worthless form of payment likely to initially be accepted by a bank. The seller ships gear + money, losing both. I get these offers fairly often. Kinda sounds like yours. So, a fake cashier's check. If the bank accepts it & gives you the $$, can they then take the $$ back? There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. It doesn't imply you've done anything wrong, you're still the victim; it's just that the bank does not have to assume the role of victim and make your problem its problem. It's like if I sell you a stolen car, can the car's rightful owner make you give it back, even if I'm long gone, and so is your money? Yes.
 LawnDart21 0 #14 December 2, 2005 Hi Erica, yes, that is the EXACT scam email I got. UK skydiver named Joeline Coleman that was in West Africa. A business associate owed her $3000, and she was going to use that money for my $1200 Mirage, and going to pay it to me........, I'd pay her back the difference, becuase she knew she could trust me to do so......... Side note a co-worker of mine had a similar experience in selling his used car, he actually received a $25,000 check (for a $16.000 vehicle). He took it to the bank, explained his suspisions, and they verified it was a bogus check. He contacted the local FBI office and gave them all the info/emails he had. He got an email from the scammer wanting to confirm he had the check and would be sending payment. He replied back that he received the check, but that the FBI would be delivering the payment to him. He never heard back from the scammer...........lol -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
