I am getting trained and wanted to know what the salaries run around for, especifically in New York, but any information would be appreciated. Thanks. jtval 0 #2 August 24, 2006 salary is the wrong word to use. if you want to make a living from skydiving you will need to travel. I alot of NY'ers go to Fla for the winter. I am not a full timer videoguy but on a STRONG weekend I can make upto $400. but that is non stop filming editing packing. EDIT: Ny Is seasonal and I would doubt you can make enough to live through the winter. I haven't live in NY for 9 years but grew up on LI. its a good way to supplement your skydiving fund, but its hard to make a living from.My photos My Videos Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Samurai136 0 #3 August 24, 2006 Generally, instructors are not paid a salary (X$/year). Instructors are paid for piece work (X$/ jump). The instructor is only making money when they are jumping. AggieDave 6 #4 August 24, 2006 Salary? That would also imply benifits, time off, paid sick leave and everything else that goes with most jobs. Unfortunately that's not the case, if it were the case I'd still be a full time skydiver only. Unfortunately I wasn't willing to stay with such a low annual income with no benifits for the long term so I went and got a "real" job. Don't get me wrong, I've never worked as hard as I did while I was a full time skydiver and it was a great gig, but you're paid per jump. Not a lot of students? Not much money. Bad weather? Not much if any money. You twisted your ankle playing basketball and can't jump? You have no money and no medical (unless you can actually afford it). At a busy DZ if you work your butt off you might crank out $30k a year. *Maybe* That's if you can do everything at the DZ, Tandem, AFF, Coach, Video and rigging. Otherwise you're stuck enjoying the hell out of life, but doing it with so little money that your gear is worth more than your car (and possibly your house...aka travel trailer). Next time you go to your DZ bring a beer and order a couple of pizza for your instructors. They'll appreciate it! --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
