deadwood 0 #1 August 13, 2004 Does anybody have any hard data of jumpers who have been fatality injured by a hard opening? Dates, canopy types and info from autopsy reports would be helpful. riggerrob 643 #2 August 13, 2004 Go look in the incidents forum or read USPA fatality reports. Hard openings have killed a few people. The worst type of hard opening involves line dump with the slider not all the way up.
cvfd1399 0 #3 August 13, 2004 I read a report from a tandem site(i forget) that was refering to riser strength, but it stated that most humans will have passed out at 9G's and 15-20 G's are enough to kill a person. The point was that with non damaged tandem risers and a load of 350lbs you would have to experience a opening of 15G's(=5250#) to break a riser with a strength of #5000 According to kallends power point a 70(kg?) jumper experiences 4 G's on a 125 mph deployment that lasts 2 seconds. That is just something to think about while you research the data. It is my best recall of the info anyways someone please correct anything they see wrong. freebird185 0 #4 August 13, 2004 It's important to note that most people pass out in sustained 9g's. We can handle a lot more if it's less than a few seconds. If we trained monkeys to pack, would you jump their pack jobs?
