darrenspooner 0 #1 July 28, 2006 I have 170 jumps but only just started getting ready for FS1. Went through dirt dive and it confused the crap out of me - I mean, I can get around and keep my station and get grips, but the formations were very confusing. I didn't know what the formations looked like from above, and I didn't know what bits to grip. So I was wondering two things - is there a resource anywhere that would help me to understand 4-way formations, and would anyone else benefit from a specific forum for novices/intermediates? The RW forum isn't just for hot shit teams As far as the confusion goes my not so experienceed opinions would be- Make sure you have an illustrated dive pool handy, if not at least sketch stick figure formation so you can see who goes where. Fastrax have a good one here of all the 4-way randoms. Fully dirt dive it, stand it up - lay it down on creepers - mock up the exit. Have your coach explain every step of the way - who to reference, how to get where you need to be, which grips to take, what key to look for etc. Repeat every stage of the dirt dive until it's burned into your brain, then repeat it again. There's nothing worse than smoothly working the first few points then forgetting where the hell to go next and looking like a muppet as you burn up the altitudeDo you want to have an ideagasm? Try DiveMaker.com It has the formations, plus tests to help you learn the names and a basic explanation of the grips that all other formations are built upon. ..
