StreetScooby 5 #101 July 12, 2006 I remember doing some coached dives with Craig Buxton in Deland during the summer of 1991. With video, I paid $15 + ( $15 + 2 * $15 ) + ( $15 + 1 * $15 ) = $90 / jump Best money I've ever spent in the sport.We are all engines of karma
bigairnut 0 #102 July 17, 2006 I've done some freefly coach jumps at Skydive AZ (as student). It was awhile back so I can't recall if it was $70 or $75, but something like that. That includes my slot, coach's slot, and coach's pack job. That totals $45, leaving $30-$35. DZ gets part of that for providing the facilities for prejump planning and video debrief. Coach gets the rest. Seems reasonable to me.
bigairnut 0 #103 July 17, 2006 Oops, bad math on my part. It leaves $25-$30 for coach and DZ to split...even more reasonable.
flyboyne 1 #104 July 18, 2006 You could have 10,000 hrs flying jumpers but thats not going to help you get a high paying airline job. The airlines want cross country time and IFR time, both of which jump pilots don't receive a lot of. A lot of jump pilots fly just because its fun and for the love of the sport. GQ_jumper 4 #105 July 18, 2006 Right, but with two equally-experienced people, the coach is going to (in general) do a better job of coaching. I've got nothing at all against experienced D-licensed people jumping with new jumpers, but a D license does not make someone a decent coach. A coach rating is more likely to make one a decent coach. Quote On the flipside of your statement Bill I've seen way too many people with coach ratings that suck as coaches, but in their own mind that piece of paper that says "coach" makes em good at what they do.History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. I'm willing to bet most D licenced skydivers with no ratings are in much better of a position to provide good coaching than someone w/ under 500 jumps and a coach rating. A coach rating is just an expensive piece of paper IMO.
