wildcard451 0 #2 July 8, 2006 4-8 hours, depending on instructors and number of people. edit: that's for AFF. Tandem, 15-30 minutes.

riggerrob 643 #4 July 8, 2006 CSPA recommends a minimum of 4 1/2 hours of ground instruction for small (1 - 4 students) classes before the first IAD jump. Larger groups or slow learners require more hours and maybe an assistant instructor.
countzero 7 #5 July 9, 2006 my aff first jump course took about 6hrs. i hope to never stop learning about skydiving be it in the air or on the ground. blue skies!diamonds are a dawgs best friend
NickDG 23 #6 July 9, 2006 Sorry - Everyone up-board is completely wrong. It lasts as long as it takes until your Instructor feels you're ready. NickD BASE
Skyliber 0 #7 July 10, 2006 since you're asking ballpark, not a precise time as someone pointed out. i took mine about a month and a half ago and it was about 6 hours. a guy i know took it a week ago (different instructor) and it was about 5 or so hours. but that was just us and there were half the amount of people in the group. -=+ Skyliber, Disynthegrate, & Nucleaire +=-

lawrocket 3 #9 July 11, 2006 It totally depends. My AFF ground school was about 3 1/2 hours. There was only one other person in the class, and he was an alert and sharp dude. We both grasped the instruction pretty well. So we got ready to go. I can imagine ground school as being like any other class - if you have one or more students who interrupt often with irrelevant or off-topic questions, expect it to last much longer. After that, it's up to the instructor. if that instructor is worried that you justr aren't getting it, it may last forever. My wife is hotter than your wife. Ron 10 #10 July 11, 2006 Depends on the method and number of students. I have found: Tandem: About 15-20 min Static Line: About 4 hours AFF: About 5-6. US Army, three fun filled weeks in GA. But like I said it depends on how fast the student gets it and the number of students. I have taught one on one AFF classes in 2.5 hours with a smart student."No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers,
meatbomb 0 #11 July 13, 2006 Quote if you have one or more students who interrupt often with irrelevant or off-topic questions, expect it to last much longer. I'd disagree. I always tell my students that there's no such thing as an irrelevant or off-topic question... If the question's in their head, it's relevant. Answer it and move on...(My most common answer is: Good question, We'll cover that later) Mind you, my fastest first-time SL course took 6 hours...(indeed that's the minimum required in the UK)--- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii!
