coolshoes 0 #1 July 5, 2006 Saturday a week ago I made a jump that was uneventful, except that as soon a I landed I realized my nose was running and snot was hanging from it. I blew my nose and it filled a paper towel with a huge amount of runny snot. I felt better for a few seconds, then got so dizzy I had to sit down. Slight dizzyness and nasua then occurred each day for a week. It then got so bad I had to go to the doctor. She said my inner ear had been affected by the pressure change and prescribed skin patches that I have to wear for 2 weeks. Anyone else had this experience? How was it treated? How long did it last? billvon 3,073 #2 July 5, 2006 >Anyone else had this experience? I've had the loads-of-snot experience; generally it comes from jumping shortly after a cold or a sinus problem. Bad cases result in a bloody nose. It's caused by sinuses not being able to vent normally. It can also cause pain and disorientation. (SCUBA diving can cause the same sort of pressure changes and the same problems.)
Beatnik 2 #3 July 5, 2006 I have been there as well. It occurs really bad from sinus problems. I have had my sinus blow on me under canopy and cover my goggles. The worst I had was due to a sinus cold and it screwed my hearing up after a weekend of jumping real bad. To the point wear it was painful and I couldn't hear a thing. Unfortunately, the best thing to due if you have a cold or sinus problems is to take a weekend off. It might be hard now but you will be happy after when you aren't in pain afterwards. Katherine 0 #4 July 5, 2006 Hi I didn't have the snot thing, but have been really dizzy after a jump. It lasted a few hours where I was really dizzy, then took about 4 days to return back to normal. Felt really rough at the time. I didn't get any treatment for it, I was just told that it would go away on its own. Hope you feel better soon.Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
popsjumper 2 #5 July 6, 2006 Had the Snot Runs only once so far. I quit jumping until my sinuses were clear. Jumped and snot completely covered my goggles over one eye. Took the goggles off for landing and dropped them over the DZ so I could find them after landing. I don't know but I've been told that a blown-out sinus cavity is not a fun thing to experience. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus.
