JoeG 0 #26 June 29, 2006 UGH. That's shitty. At the very least you could add it as unpaid on their credit report. It could come to bite them in the ass when they try to buy a car or a house. I know it's not a good solution, and I hate that we have to cater to the lowest common denominator, but it might mean recovering at least some canopies._________________________________________ "Knowledge is Power!" Cloudi 0 #28 June 30, 2006 Fortunately, this kind of thing happens very rarely & most people send the canopy back after a stern email or phone call. I can be mean when I gotta be. I've even had people tell me they forgot they had it (in trunk of car, closet, locker, etc.) when I called about late ones. I suppose that's possible, but I seriously doubt they would tolerate that excuse from their rigger when they are looking for their gear after a repack or maintenance. Imagine some rigger telling you they left your gear in the trunk of their car for 3 weeks! "Ooops! Sorry." Speaking of riggers, I had a rigger repo a canopy for me once. He knew it was a demo, but the guy using it kept telling him I said it was ok for him to still have it (LSofS). I didn't, and was actually trying to get it back. Brian Grady (my hero!) called me up, asked about it, and very nicely shipped it back to us the following week. That was my "David Leeif Brandal" happy ending story. popsjumper 2 #29 June 30, 2006 Jeff, I would be interested in knowing the DZ and DZO in Canada that was so helpful to you. Kudos to him/her.My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Falcon5232, SCS8170, SCSA353, POPS9398, DS239
packerboy 3 #30 June 30, 2006 I don't know how it is down there in the States, but here in Canada, at the very few dropzones that I have been to, we still have a very smalltown mentality about trusting people. Everyone leaves their gear laying all around. Kind of like leaving your door unlocked when you live out in the country. Sad, very sad.. but I think I'll be more carefull now, even at my home DZ. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
Cloudi 0 #31 July 1, 2006 We have that same mentality at DeLand. Occasionally, someone takes advantage of it, but even for our somewhat "large" DZ, it is still very rare. Thieves SUCK. I've found that by having a rig that no one wants (color), I don't have to worry. That, and it has my name on it. If the OD doesn't stop them, "Kim" on one of the 3-ring covers shoud do the trick. peckerhead 0 #32 July 1, 2006 That totally sucks Jeff. I sold a rig a few months ago to a guy in the phillapines. He ripped me off by using a stolen credit card to pay for it. Unfortunately some skydivers are scumbags. Stealing parachutes is the worst thing, I hope they get caught.

If you got the serial numbers of the gear it might be traceable AFAIK not that many jumpers in the PI. Anyone know some jumpers in the PI that can help peckerhead get his stolen gear back? mjosparky 4 #34 July 1, 2006 QuoteThat, and it has my name on it. A couple of years ago there was a complete rig stolen at Perris. It had names on it.....One side said "AirSpeed" and the other said "Dan BC." Didn't slow them down a bit.My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
peckerhead 0 #35 July 1, 2006 I have the address it was shipped to, the name of the person who signed for it, serial number, pictures, and a bogus phone number. I have contacted the DZ's down there but no luck so far. Anyone can PM me for details. It is also listed on this site in the stolen gear section. FWIW try a new thread with PI (Philipines) in the title. IMO This thread has achieved it's purpose. Thats all folks R.i.P.
freefalle 0 #37 July 2, 2006 QuoteQuoteBad Boy, Bad boy, what you going do when they come for you. You just got listed on skydiving's version of AMW, you won't be able to hide. Hmmm...can I post the names of people who won't return demo's? I'm not allowed to post stolen gear in the mags, because I know who has them and the police say I can't file a report because I willingly sent it to them. There aren't many (faith in humanity restored), but with the few there are...it sure would be nice to ask for help from fellow skydivers. Mods, whatcha think? Kim, when people, demo gear, do they not sign an agreement as to when it will be returned. I thought they did. If that is the case they have effectively entered into a "rental agreement" as there is a charge to Demo gear. That being said, it may interest you to know that there is a florida state statute against failure to return rented or leased property. ( I can get you the statute # if you really are interested) Anyway, failure to return a item in excess of 300.00 is a felony in the state of Florida. You would of course have to push this issue with the lazy deland cop who shows up to take the report and tells you "its a civil matter, theres nothing I can do" because hes to lazy to write the report. Having the statute in hand and asking for the name of his supervisor will probably help. Its a last resort, but it may help get the product back to the company. If you have any questions, let me know.

Cloudi 0 #41 July 2, 2006 I hear ya, but sponsored gear is "cool." Mine, although I love it, is not "cool" and most people wouldn't look twice at it (unless they are or used to be in the military). I remember hearing about that. Did he ever get it back? Kim Watch as I attempt, with no slight of hand, to apply logic and reason.
