Newbie boogie questions

Recommended Posts

So I keep seeing the boogie references around and about, and I have a few questions that I'm hoping the braintrust can answer. Mostly I need to know how many (100?) jumps after an A license do you need to attend one of these. Also where are the best ones and how often do they happen. Once I get proficient in skydiving I'd like to start making my vacation plans around big events. What are the major events of the summer? realistically I probably wont be ready until then , and I'd like to see about going Just don;t tell my parole officer:P).

I attended the American boogie when I was a Post AFF student there at Davis. Was actually my 3rd and 4th jumps, using the borrowed CASA. But since I was landing at the somewhat remote student landing zone (the Barn), it wasn't really different from before.

Most will allow you with an A, a few require more. Ideally, you should be comfortable flying your canopy in a sky with at least an otter load (23 jumpers). WFFC in Illinois is one of the biggest, requires 50 (?) jumps and not being under a parachute above 3000 (essentially meaning throwing your PC at 3.5).

Depends on what you are looking for in a boogie; fast planes, different things to jump from, huge nightly party with lots of drunk people, nice scenery, safety conscience dz...you get the picture. What is important to you?

Wow, very cool and looks like a good place to start. Thanks. In regards to what I'm looking for in a boogie experience...short answer; I don;t know. Long answer; As a complete and total newb to skydiving I am unfamiliar with almost every aspect of the sport other than what I see at my DZ. Once I get to a point where I am proficient enough to "leave the nest" I wnat the complete skydiver experience. I want to visit the hallowed and historic DZ's to see the people and places I've read about or seen on TV (and a few really bad movies), do small formations and huge big ways, crazy jumps from helos and baloons, high altitude jumps, crazy all night parties in exotic locales, so basically wherever I can jump with lots of people who will get drunk with me and listen to me talk about it all night. If there are any boogies that hand out free money to the participants, that will probably be my first stop. The Skyfest in Houston look slike a good starting point. If anybody from SDA is going, give me a yell, I've got gas money and I alwyas take Jaeger on a roadtripB|

You have a little time till the summer starts. Get some jumps under your belt, try and get a B or greater Lic. Then visit DZ.com look under calender or boogies and pick somthing. The WFFC has been known for specialty aircraft and some wild nite life that I have only heard of...maybe seen a photo or two...ok ok I saw the 99 video but this is a good one. Just be straight up where ever you go and someone will help you. And don't be to shy about showing up at the WFFC there are several landing areas that will keep you out of the main flow if need be. Good luck and welcome to a new way of looking at life.

mdrejhon:
You may consider RoamingDZ.com Destin Beach Boogie.

Destin Florida, dates not scheduled yet but late spring, early summer for sure.

Beautiful!
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.

Bumping this because I saw a question from a newbie about whether a boogie was appropriate and I'm sure there's lots of new jumpers considering their :D boogie.
