tombuch 0 #1 May 24, 2006 For any jumpers at The Ranch in Gardiner, New York...I just received the attached notice regarding a TFR around West Point for a Presidential visit on Saturday morning. It will probably disrupt jumping. Check with The Ranch (845-255-9538) before getting up early on Saturday. Quote FAA TO ESTABLISH TFR OVER WEST POINT ON SATURDAY AOPA is sending this message to advise pilots in and near West Point, New York, that the FAA has issued a notam restricting flight in the area during President Bush's planned visit on Saturday, May 27. There will be a large 30-nautical-mile-radius temporary flight restriction (TFR) over West Point centered on the IGN VOR's 225-degree radial at 17.6 miles, extending up to Flight Level 180. It will be in effect from 7:45 a.m. local until 12 p.m. local on Saturday. Also, there will be multiple smaller 10-nm-radius GA no-fly zones in effect within the larger TFR during that timeframe. See AOPA Online for the full text of the notam along with a graphical depiction ( http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams.html#6/8175 ). The affected landing facilities are Stewart International (SWF), Peekskill SPB (7N2), Orange County (MGJ), Haverstraw Heliport (H43), Kobelt (N45), Warwick Municipal (N72), Dutchess County (POU), Randall (06N), Stormville (N69), Sky Acres (44N), Wurtsboro-Sullivan County (N82), Greenwood Lake (4N1), Joseph Y. Resnick (N89), Danbury Municipal (DXR), Westchester County (HPN), Airhaven (09N), Candlelight Farms (11N), Candlelight Heliport (6Y2), Sussex (FWN), and Lincoln Park (N07). Because TFR airspace frequently changes, AOPA strongly encourages pilots to obtain a briefing and CHECK NOTAMS before every flight. TFR violators will be intercepted and forced to land. ZigZagMarquis 9 #8 May 27, 2006 Maybe you could call up Bush Sr. and get him to pull some strings... ya know, Skydiving, Sport of Presidents and all... . With the days of GPS upon us, its interesting the FAA is still isuing TFRs based on a distance on such and such VOR radial... would be much simpler to just state a Lat/Long and Circle of such and such Radius to such and such FL. Anyway, if I was flying in that area, I'd get out my chart, plot the TFR, then add at least half again to it and then stay hell and clear away from that... don't want those black helicopters chasin' me down!!!
