kaxter 0 #26 May 6, 2006 That website has the potential to make TONS more money. You have only one google skyscraper on the left hand side...and thats it. Reposition your ads and you will see substantial monetary gains. the skyscraper is the worst performing of all the adblocks, take a look at the google heatmap and redo it all. timbarrett 0 #28 May 8, 2006 no argument...but is there any other way than donating via PayPal as it doesn't seem to like UK CCs?"Work hard, play hard and don't whinge"
pilotdave 0 #29 May 8, 2006 For anyone that would like to donate but can't use paypal, you can send a check directly to Matt: Make it payable to 'Matthew Crocker' and mail it to: PO BOX 17 North Hatfield, MA 01066 Are there any online payment services that would work from Europe (that don't require monthly payments or anything like that)? Also, if you've been on the site recently, you've probably noticed the new ads/layout. I'd never ask anybody to click on an ad they aren't interested in, but each click is like a mini donation. If you happen to see an ad that might be related to something you're interested in, like skydiving, feel free to click on it and enjoy another great skydiving related web page. I wouldn't recommend clicking like crazy on ads for your own DZ, since they pay per click. I also added a google search bar at the bottom of each page. The skydivingmovies.com search doesn't work yet, as we haven't been indexed by google (I'd been keeping search engines out to minimize hits as much as possible, but they need to index the site for the ads to work). It also lets you search the entire web or just skydivingmovies.com, dropzone.com, or uspa.org. If you run across a term in the description of a video that you're not familiar with, try searching dropzone.com right from that page. The search results page will also have ads, which you may or may not be interested in. Again, clicking on those ads, if you happen to see something interesting, is like a small donation. Everything helps and you might find a website you didn't know about. Expect ad relevancy to go up as the site gets indexed. And yes, there may be better locations for ads that are more effective but also more intrusive. I'm trying to keep them out of the way as much as possible. As they are, they shouldn't interfere with browsing the site at all really. Dave

Avion 0 #31 May 10, 2006 Dave: How about seting up a premium service tier, like they got here. Just limit down loading speeds and quantities per monty for the free users. Even if you charged some really low price like one dollar a year for unlimited speed and quantity you'd only need about 1 percent of your users to subscribe. I've uploaded a few short clips, and I'd gladly pay that. Doing it for free is philanthropic of you, but unless your rich, it's a burden. Cheers, BW
Avion 0 #32 May 10, 2006 Come to think of it, limiting quantity would be a bad idea, because you'd have people creating multiple free accounts to get around it. Just limit speed to something reasonable. Cheers, BW
nate_1979 9 #33 May 12, 2006 The problem with people hosting their own files on their home connections is that most home internet connections have PAINFULLY SLOW connections, we would be spending hours downloading videos... It would be a nice option for those of us who do have high speed hosting though to help you take a load off and host our own videos with a transparent link on your directory. You could also allow your users to mirror some of your files, however this tends to be a pain for the end user when they have to choose servers and find out that the alloted quota has been exceeded.. something that I'm sure would happen with many mirrors of a site like yours FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
