Kapowsin DZ transition

Recommended Posts

A notice was sent out regarding the upcomming move to the Kapowsin mailing list on Jan 17th. It is not stated when the mocve will happen but there is a sign up at the airport in shelton that they are going to be moving thre. Not sure when the move will be though..

As a side I have made that drive and I do think it is optomistic saying 90 min from Seattle but if there is no traffic it is possible.

Kapowsin Air Sports is excited to announce that they will be moving to Shelton, WA (Sanderson Field). Plans are underway for a new hanger designed specially for a Skydiving Center. The hanger should be complete by the beginning of summer.

Possibilities are endless at Sanderson Field, it is a huge airport with very little acctivity. Drive time from downtown Seattle is 1hr 30min and it's freeway all the way. I-5 south to exit 104 (ocean beaches exit) then Hwy 101 North to Sanderson Field, turn left off 101 into the airport.

We will be announcing a Grand Opening soon. Exacts are still uncertain and are weather dependent. Lets hope for a early and good spring. We will keep you posted as details unfold.

Sincerely,

talked to andy the couple of days ago and he said that they've sold their property at kapow and have a big semi to transport all their stuff to the new location.

from the sound of it it's gonna be a bad ass dz in the NW. big hanger, big runway, big landing area, and easier to get to.

he didn't give me any dates on when they're gonna open though, they've probably gotta get everything set and organized, which i'm sure is not an easy task.

The initial announcement said the move would be weather-dependent. Looks like the upcoming weather forecast is *finally* working in their favor as some dry weather is finally hitting Seattle (not that I would know... I'm on the other side of the country where we're expecting a Nor'easter this weekend. :S)

I agree with Scott that 90 minutes from Seattle is a bit optimistic (*maybe* from the south end) but I'm still looking forward to making the drive down. I never got a chance to jump at the old Kapowsin, but I'm really excited about the new one.

WOW I'm really really outta the loop, my first jumps were at Kapowsin... I knew about some "issues" with the a neighbor at the DZ, but nothing that would lead to a move. Is this move a result of the nasty neighbor, or just a wish to expand?

Oh yea the weather was quite uncooperative- I did manage to get there aroung noonish and everyone was inside the DZ bus staying dry- Jesse showed up about 20 minutes later from Olympia after doing a Demo for capital Auto mall - Andy and the other guy looked like they were alittle weathered from the leap, but in good spirits. Hopefully tommorow will be a little better but I'm banking on next saturday to get this party started. Cheers to the pioneers who kept our sport rockin. I did get a fresh repack though

I just want to post this message while it's fresh in mind. Thanks to the Kapowsin crew out at sanderson field today who worked to keep operations going, they were busy with Tandems- and still were able to get me in the air to make my currency jump after 3 years,so I can now get my log-book once again up to par. Thanks Luke, Andy, Kerri, Corrine, Jeff Bell, Jeff Farrington, and Jesse for signing me off on my currency leap, and not to forget Monica with her kindness with the packing. I now have the regional directors signature in my log-book. Cheers to the pioneers who kept our sport-rockin.
