flare height

whenever that time comes i always go straight to half flare and that will start levelling me out and then right as my feet are about to hit the ground i go straight to full flare and it just glides out usually so i just slide my feet and try not to stand until i'm basically stopped. so yeah, the half flare before full flare has worked great for me.

I do this too (two-stage flare), but it is what my instructor suggests me NOT to do. The reason is simple - by doing half-flare I decrease the forward speed of canopy, and I need this forward speed to get a good flare.

Oh good grief I wish I knew what y'all were talking about...LOL

Ask your instructors. This is all stuff your instructors can and should explain to you.

Then, either while you're still a student or once you've got your license, look for opportunities to get more focused canopy coaching. There are lots of great coaches out there (in fact, you're in SoCal - both Elsinore and Perris have well-reputed canopy coaching programs). Whether it's at 25 jumps or 100 jumps or 1000 jumps, learning how to get the most out of your canopy can be the safest thing you ever do in this sport.

Lisa, you do not have enough jumps to just take information from here.... there are GREAT people on here who know so friggen much about this sport. However you have to learn from your instructors first because THEY know how you fly...they know your strengths and weaknesses in the sport. Personally I listen to many on here, but I still go to someone who knows how I fly and talk with them. The only person I have listened to and trust without extra extensive conversations at the DZ in the virtual skydiving world is Billvon, stratostar and skybytch. Ive never met them but they have amazing advice that is worth alot. However it took me alot of time reading and posting to realize that I trust them and the advice.

There however is a long list of those that on here I trust enough to print out their words and bring to the DZ with me.... the best advice for our jump numbers is to ask our instructors. Ive only got 82, which means I still completley suck when looking at the big picture that is this sport. Also Ill note that there are links on the home page of this website that give great information (articles) many written by Billvon himself.
Sudsy Fist: i don't think i'd ever say this
Sudsy Fist: but you're looking damn sudsydoable in this

I love reading all of the posts on this website. I've learned alot. But ultimately, I will only go by what my instructor says.
These posts have boosted my fear level to a new level of excitement.
Thanks to you all !!!
