MrBrant 0 #1 March 30, 2005 Hey guys, A few people have been asking for a repack calculator/reminder. (wheather an e-mail reminder, or other, or what not). Anywhoo, I had to do a programming assignment for school, so I decided to make one. This program runs in the background on your computer, with a taskbar icon (near the system clock, MSN, etc). You enter your repack data, and settings, and it will pop a box up and remind you when you are approaching your due date. Accually a cool little program (If i do say so myself ) Anywhoo, download this: (right-click and "save-as") http://www.mrbrant.com/files/RepackCalc.zip Unzip the folder contained in that archive to the root directory of your C drive. You then have to move a shortcut to the startup folder (in order for the notifications to appear when u approach your date) Detailed install instructions are in a Read-Me file also included in the zip file. Hope some people can find this useful, Post any questions here, or PM me. Later. (edited to add sum screenshots )
tdog 0 #2 March 30, 2005 Installed. Can you modify it to remind me when to give the dog his heart worm medicine too??? Seriously, it works so far. Thanks.
Sen.Blutarsky 0 #3 March 30, 2005 Good job! Nowadays it's custom to publish your source code for noncommercial applications, otherwise people who don't know you personally may properly question the safety of your compiled code. So I ask you to please post your source. As a courtesy, I'm attaching a draft header that contains legal notices for protecting you and your rights, also it bears the usual statuory exculpations. Thanks for sharing
tdog 0 #4 March 30, 2005 Ya I did think about the fact you might be cracking my computer, but I don't want your source code... Karma in skydiving will catch up with us all... But, what is the "coolness checkbox"???

MrBrant 0 #7 March 30, 2005 Sure, not a problem. I don't care about copy-writing. Anybody who wants to make my program better is welcome to it. I'll post it up today, if it'll make people feel better.

One thought if you're looking for ideas for changes/improvements: It might be nice to be able to enter dates for more than 1 rig, say up to 5 to cover the really hardcore or families that have more than 1 jumper. Would be neat if one could name the rigs when more than one rig is being monitored."Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
 jameslovaas 0 #12 March 30, 2005 Thanks.
 IanHarrop 42 #14 April 6, 2005 Just a couple of points to consider after having the software loaded for a while: - When it first loads it always says 0 days until repack. It corrects it self after I open it to full screen and minimize it to the tray again. - leave my computer on or put it to sleep for days on end. The software does not notice the day change unless I open it to full screen display. Don't get me wrong, I still really like this tool, just pointing out some bugs! Thanks, MrBrant!"Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
 MrBrant 0 #15 April 6, 2005 Yeah, If you put your computer to sleep, it will not-auto update (program needs to be restarted for this to occur). It's meant to be started up each time the computer boots. (I also have that problem, since I usually just hibernate my laptop whne i'm done using it). I'm not exactly sure how to get it to auto-update without stealing too many system resources. I don't know a whole-heck-of-alot about programming, so if any other programmers want to take a crack at it, by all means, use whatever you can/want from my original code. The "0 days" on startup sounds kind of weird. I've never had that problem. I'll try to duplicate. Thanks for the feedback ) Anybody else having issues? Maybe everybody knows this one, but at one DZ I've been to, they put a tag on the left leg strap of their student rigs, right next to the container, with the repack date written on it. They use those papery-plasticky wristbands you sometimes get when you go to a concert or a club to show that you're of drinking age or have paid your admission or whatever. The tags seem to last the requred time, and stay put on the leg strap. If all you have to do is look at your rig to see the date, that seems pretty easy. Of course this may not work as well for longer-term events like AAD batteries/maintenance, statute of limitations expiring, etc. EulePLF does not stand for Please Land on Face.
