Brian1 0 #1 April 21, 2006 Hello all, The last time I jumped was in Oct. 05 I was in a static line program with about 8 jumps. Due to starting a new job I have been unable to jump. Any suggestions whether to continue the static line progression or cross over to a AFF program because all the first time anxiety I know is going to be there. I work in a helicopter now so I have the want to jump when we are flying I always look out and think " I wish I could jump here"
 bigway 4 #2 April 21, 2006 Static line sucks dude. Get into AFF and have some control over everything. The only things that should do static line are little action toys. Enjoy, dont be scared, skydiving is easy! .Karnage Krew Gear Store . I reckon that if you really know you want to do this, which you obviously do, switch to AFF. You have an advantage over a first timer having already done 8 exits and landings on your own, now go (decent) freefall and find out what it's really all about Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun. Everyone trained that way before AFF came along. It's a proven system and it seems a cheaper way to get started jumping....Steve1
 Airman1270 0 #7 April 21, 2006 QuoteThere's nothing wrong with static line... _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Ditto Steve. AFF doesn't necessarily suck, but the static-line program is just fine. An added bonus is that, after you've graduated and are becoming more experienced you won't start to freak out because you're at 5000' and haven't begun the break-off yet. You'll be able to do hop 'n' pops on low ceiling days while the AFF grads stay on the ground. Cheers, Jon S. I don't know where in Alabama you are from but there is a great little DZ that offers static line down there with friendly helpful people that will keep you on track to becoming a safe and competent skydiver. For some people, static line is a far better way to go than AFF. For many, though, AFF is nice because you don't have to deal with the stability problems that many face doing short delays. Also, static line may well end up being cheaper. Since you are used to static line already, I'd say continue with that and if it doesn't work out for you, switch to AFF. I made 20 jumps in 1997, quit due to a divorce, and made it back to jumping last summer. When I went to Skydive The Farm after moving to GA, they started me off with recurrent AFF jumps...what a difference that made! I learned more in 3 AFF jumps than I did in 10 jumps at my old DZ! A lot had to do with the quality of instruction I received at The Farm...(thanks Mike G.!) but you will have more advanced skills learning through AFF at the 20 jump point, than you would staying with Static Line...IMHO.
