mattjw916 2 #2 March 3, 2006 NO NO NO!!! Wait until you are healthy!!! Do not jump when you are congested, you can burst/perforate an ear drum and generally have a really bad day! I've seen it happen, it's not pretty. The sky will still be there next weekend. Have patience. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
karenmeal 0 #3 March 3, 2006 No!! Don't risk it. I've jumped with what I thought was a small cold before and I don't know what happened, but there was excruciating pain in freefall and then I got a big ol' nosebleed. Couldn't have been good stuff going on in there. Felt like I was going to pass out. You could tear an ear-drum and suffer some potentially long-term hearing loss, damage your sinuses badly and just generally have a bad time. Call the DZ and explain this to them, schedule a jump for the next week! -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

Chad I've done that.. I'm not doing it again ;) much pain and bloody goggles and helmet was the result.
rasmack 0 #5 March 3, 2006 Thought about doing it a few weeks ago. Decided against it. Three days later I was taking a commercial flight. That hurt enough and they pressurize to the equivalent of about 6000 ft. Full altitude would have been living hell... To summarize: DON'T! The sky will always be there.HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde... Zipp0 1 #6 March 3, 2006 Should I be concerned as someone coming into the sport who suffers from hay fever? I used to scuba dive, and I have no problem equalizing even when congested. Claritin D helps a whole lot when pollen is high. Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Claritin D helps a whole lot when pollen is high. bear in mind that underwater, you can always hover, or even go up slightly. In the air...no. Your jump is equilivent to dropping down ~14ft in less than 60 secs. Most divers have no problem with that when healthy (I can go easily 100ft/min), but I knew a few that did. Zipp0 1 #8 March 3, 2006 Well, back in my military days I had a flight physical and was deemed 'aeronautically adapted', and I had some hay fever issues at the time. I have changed very little physically since then. Probably the only way to know for sure is to give it a shot. Or I'll get allergy shots this year for the first time in my life. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down. riggerrob 643 #9 March 5, 2006 Claritin might reduce hay fever symptoms, just have a long chat with your pharmacist to ensure than it will not affect reaction times or emotions.
riggerrob 643 #10 March 5, 2006 The first time I jumped with a sinus infection, it felt like someone had buried an ax in my skull! Far wiser to wait another week or two.

MrBrant 0 #12 March 6, 2006 Quick related question to anybody: Startin to get a cold now - which sucks since I"m on a plane to Deland tomorrow! It's at the throat sore, nose starting to run stage. (not congested yet). Anybody know any tricks to keep the sinuses open? (go with the old-school vicks vapour rub maybe - hehe)
Iceburner 0 #13 March 6, 2006 vicks is my favorite...i jumped with some stuffed up sinuses...my head was pounding, but it also cleared me out....had snot everywhere, but felt better when i was on the ground...
kelpdiver 2 #14 March 7, 2006 drink a lot (of water, not alcohol!), sleep a lot. If you got the time, a lot of colds can be ended right at the beginning with 14+ hours of sleep.
Evelyn 0 #15 March 7, 2006 I agree with the other posters. Wait until you are healed to jump. You will be glad you did. If you still have problems with allergies/hay fever I recommend taking sudefed whenever you jump. I tend to have sinus/allergy problems so I just take sudafed on the days I jump and I'm fine. valcore 0 #16 March 7, 2006 Don't Do it I tried it once........ bad idea thought my ears were bleeding once I landed. I have never had so much pain from pressure change then I did when jumping with a cold.
