Got the A!

Recommended Posts

I'd like to know where you rank against others in the quantity of posts by the time of A license.! B|;)

Congratulations.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

hey everyone,

Jus a lil bout me (dont wanna bore you to death!;)) - im called mike, live in london, an am 16 and will be doing a full AFF course + consolidation jumps in norfolk this coming weekend and week:)
But my worry is that i have no real experience of meeting skydivers , except for doing a tandem, and the dropzone (which is excellent!), is expanding and thus has loads of regulars.

Therefore, i feel very intimidated and scared [:/], and was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on how to get to know everybody, without looking like a jerk or being slightly intrusive?

Also, does the fact that someone is 16 change regulars attitudes towards them, so that they are outcasted for being slightly younger than say, some other students or regulars?

Many Thanks in advance for any advice, it will be much appreciated and will make the coming week a lot less daunting!!:)
Kind regards,

Mike

Seeing this gives me hope that even I will eventually get my A license. :) (I started before you did and
still haven't got it, and I don't have the excuse of the weather in the UK, either.)

From a quick Web search, it appears that it's mathematically possible, in the UK, to get your parachute
license before you are even eligible for a driver's license - were you able to do that?

Congrats - that's a good effort getting qualified so quick. I got my A License a few weeks back - after 55 jumps!! (it was those 37 static line progression jumps here and there with the UK weather that held me up)

you're certainly beating me on the post numbers too!

I've jumped all over the place - my static line course and my first jump was at Netheravon as that is the dropzone that my uni club goes to. That was december 2004, I didn't jump after that till Easter, in Seville on the BCPA (British Collegiate Parachute Association) trip - 24 jumps there. Then I've jumped at South Cerney which is my local DZ - 2 miles from my house! Also jumped at Weston and Cark at other BCPA events but I finally went out to Empuriabrava and switched to AFF and did it all (8 levels, 10 consols and 10 solos) out there.

I've jumped once at South Cerney since I came back but my next jump could well be at Hinton at the next BCPA meet. I really have managed to go to quite a few DZs for such a small number of jumps!!

Oh the Let is awesome - we have one at South Cerney. Ours has a bubble on the nose which looks cool - I don't think they let people go in it though which is a shame.

Last week there was something wrong with the door so we had to have it open - the static line students sitting by the door got pretty chilly. Luckily for me I was sitting up front where it stayed quite warm :)

Haven't stopped working at it yet. :) I did get some tunnel time, which has helped me progress faster.

If I'd had a better exit last time, I'd have passed AFF level 7. But I get to do it again and do better on
the exit. Then I have to do a hop-n-pop, and some other stuff. Since I'm well past the minimum number
of jumps needed (25), I just have to work through the list of required skills/tasks for the (USPA) A license.
Off the top of my head, I've probably got a minimum of about 10 more jumps to go.

Again, congratulations!
