Ear question

Recommended Posts

I went scuba diving last night and since then my left ear is clogged up. I can't pop it. I'm not sick or have a sinus infection.... but I'm going skydiving on wedneday... do you think i'll be ok with one ear clogged? Or does anyone have any at home remedies??

Yep... Most doctor's phone numbers can be called from home phones. If it does not go away in a day or two - don't jump and see the doc. Do you scuba often? Is this the first time?

My friend had to have his eardrum cut in a office visit with the doctor after scuba diving gone bad and he ruptured his ear, and he was a regular diver. He said it was painful followed by instant relief...

Go to the drugstore. Buy an ear syringe. It's just a rubber bulb, to hold warm water. A few 'shots' from it, will dislodge almost anything you have in your ear....safely

And, it feels sooooo cool!

Alcohol on the Q-tips, will help dry out what's left.....

Good luck! And.... if it starts hurting, while jumping... wave off, and pull..... It really sucks, if you keep changing that air pressure, so very quickly.... You can ruin more than a day....
Practice random acts of kindness, and senseless beauty...

And, give money for Mr Douglas! www.mrdouglas.org

Try a decongestant. The ear bulb will only address blockages in the outer ear.

I agree. The problem is in the Eustachian tube. I recommend Sdafed, even when jumping. The FAA approves it for airman use during duty hours, so it shouldn't be a hazard for skydiving.

If the problem becomes chronic, you need to see a doc.

A word of warning, if its still blocked on weds don't jump. I jumped just after I qualified with what felt like a slight cold and was in agony for the rest of the day because I couldn't equalise the pressure. I was very lucky not to have damaged my eardrum, but it still felt like someone had rammed a knitting needle into the side of my head. :(

You won't have much of a birthday celebration if you have to go to hospital with a ruptured eardrum or destroyed sinuses.

PS happy birthday tomorrow ;)

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. If you don't take it out and use it, its going to rust.

Dude do not force it too clear....

Try and get yourself some otravin and snort it, this will open up and clear conjestion in the sinus, then after a few minutes try some gentle blowing through pinched nose to open your eutasion tubes to clear the ear. Dont force it. If this doesnt work go to the docs and get a check, you may have inflamation in your ear (or infection) and need antibiotics, your doc can see this during an ear exam.
Do not jump with this, you'll only make things worse or prolong your recovery...
