sdctlc 0 #1 January 4, 2006 Sounds like a deal was worked out in Shelton. Found this on a local radio stations page on news. As a side, Shelton is across the sound from Seattle and basically West of where Kapowsin had been. I copied a quick mapquest map (attached) Kapowsin is lower right, Shelton Left side and Seattle is upper Right. All highway fromn Center of Seattle down through Tacome to Olympia and then up to Shelton is about 90 or so miles.. Hope it goes smooth and it works out well!! http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:A-hXje0WFssJ:www.kmas.com/news.htm+Shelton+Skydiving+Minutes+Mason+Sanderson&hl=en SKYDIVING RETURNING TO SHELTON A commercial skydiving operation will be returning to Sanderson Field. Tuesday, the Port of Shelton Commission approved a 25-year lease with Kapowsin Air Sports. Kapowsin owners, Jessie and Geoff Farrington first approached the Port in September with the concept of moving their skydiving operation from Pierce County. The Port Commission discussed this issue several times since then, taking public input, reviewing safety records, talking with officials from the F-A-A, their insurance carrier and attorneys to make sure the Port is protected. The lease was NOT unanimously approved. Marv Faughender voted against leasing to the Farringtons saying it will be the biggest mistake the Port of Shelton has made in years and the Port will be sued. The Port of Shelton is leasing Kapowsin Air Sports three acres of land at Sanderson Field where the Farringtons plan on building a hanger with a café. The Port will be getting fair market value for the land plus a per jump charge of 50 cents. This is anticipated to generate up to $20,000 a year for the Port of Shelton. Kapow had a VERY cool feel to it. I enjoyed almost 8 years of many of my best jumping there. The view in Shelton I'm sure is great in its own right. Wasn't there another DZ at Shelton? Does this mean they have merged, or did their operations stop? Velocity moved away from the DZ a while back, but now is much farther away. 50 cents per jump seems like a lot to me. edit - I think we should start posting pics from Kapow in this thread, both ground and aerial. I'm sorry to say I don't have any digital pics, and my scanner is not cooperating.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. ACMESkydiver 0 #9 January 5, 2006 Gyah...so much for driving less than an hour to jump any more... -Of course I'm not a regular, so nobody will miss me out there anyhoo. But I am glad Kpow will be back in a place they can call home.~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
jasonRose 0 #11 January 5, 2006 Every time I hear about Kapowsin I think of that farmer Mc. Nasty getting his way.. I hate the guy and I don't even know him.. What a pain in the ass... Good luck on the new DZ.. Some day I will have the best staff in the world!!!
sundevil777 102 #12 January 5, 2006 Did they move the landing area? What you circled in your first pic isn't where it was when I was there. edit - maybe they did move it, the old landing area by the runway looks awfully brown and awful. The grass there was always so great, hanging out under tall trees while packing on grass right next to the action...People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Amazon 7 #14 January 5, 2006 The area I circled was the Swoop pond.. dry at the time as they were digging it out.. just to the left and down is the big student area... then the main landing area just in front of the hanger. That was taken in August and was really dry.. so yeah everything was brown.... and not raining.. for once

How about ferry service from Kapow to Shelton and back once per day? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. JohnMitchell 16 #17 January 5, 2006 It sure will be nice to settle in and SKYDIVE again. Valinda and I jumped at Kapowsin for over 20 years, a lot of great times out there. The Farringtons have done a great job keeping the DZ going under nomadic conditions. It's been a ton of work for them. It'll be so cool to have a real DZ again. Can't wait to get the tandem business rolling again.
