squirrel 0 #3 December 21, 2005 dont most insurance policies become voided if the accident involves an activity listed by the insurance policy, like skydiving. i always see that question on the application "do you skydive?" or does this only affect the policy rate? i've been told that if you can, tell the doctors that your accident did not happen at the DZ...if you can get up and move off the DZ anyway. i'll check back later, gotta go to work. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him? I don't think that is true of "most." State laws may vary as to whether or not they permit such exclusions. The American Motorcycling Association lobbied for and got congressional legislation passed that banned company health plans from not covering legal recreational activity because a few companies would not cover biking accidents. That said, I believe the bureaucracy failed the intent of the law when the rule making process came, so I don't know if that protection really made it. In fact, I don't think there's a day of my life that I've been without health insurance. As far as I know, exclusions are not allowed in MA, NJ and NY. These are the three states where I have lived and even called them to ask. The response, "You can get hurt tripping out the door, driving your car off a bridge or skydiving. We are required to cover you." It's scary to know that is not the case everywhere. I was aware that Life Insurance was harder to get as a skydiver, but not health insurance. I'd better pick my next state wisely.
