shopping?

Recommended Posts

I got little bits and pieces first. Altimeter, gloves, helmet etc. During training it was expensive so didnt want to waste too much on kit for sake of jumping.
Now I got a rig on order which will be really cool and due to waiting times by the time it arrives I should be ready to progress :)
Id say wait before making any truly expensive payments.

I made the common mistake of getting over excited and ordering brand new gear very early on which cost me a fortune and ended up missing out on things in the rest of my life so i could still afford to jump.
I dont regret buying my gear at all, i got exactly what i wanted and love it. But if i had gone second hand i could have saved a lot of money and not had the stress of finding the money.

Get all the little things (alti, helmet...), which although not cheap isnt going to break the bank, and wait until the costs of training are a distant nightmare to buy your own chute.
At two jumps you probably wont know what to get anyway so waiting is definately going to help you make better choices.

yeah Im not going to get anything for a while. at least halfway through training. Im saving all of my $ now for when the season opens up in mid/end April.
I'll have enough saved for my license/training by then. Im determined.

plus I'll have no idea what to buy (what will suit me best) so Im going to put that up to my instructors to help me out with that. they will know better than I will thats for sure. hah.

First thing I bought when I was off student status was my own alimeter, then a helmet/goggles, then a protrack. Around 35 jumps I bought used gear from local skydivers.

To this day the only stuff I have that is not used is my Flat Top Narrow helmet and my Digital Rebel.

Why buy new?

I was just wondering when you guys buy your own gear what do people usually get first? the little things? or...?

-Lisa

i did an AFF course with British Parachute School based at Langar, it cost me £1450

Included in that was a made to measure Symbiosis jump suit, an alitmeter, a log book, a protrak helmat and some goggles...not bad i thought :)
