HydroGuy 0 #1 November 12, 2005 I'm just in this as a fun jumper...only want to freefly out of/off of things. Why bother getting anything more than a B, which lets me jump at night? Hell, I haven't even sent in my B paperwork yet...Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
shall555 0 #2 November 12, 2005 Because something cool is guaranteed to come up that requires a license. For me, it was a chance to join the team of folks doing a Ripley's Believe It or Not jump from the wing of a 1933 German trimotor. A D license was required, so I got mine. There's always something ! shall
IanHarrop 42 #3 November 12, 2005 You can't jump into the brewery during the Lost Prairie boogie without a C. Hmmmmm.... I like beer, especially free Skydiver Blonde from the brewery demo "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
MB38 0 #4 November 12, 2005 Think you'll want to jump camera? You'll need your C. [edit: incorrect, see below]I really don't know what I'm talking about.

MB38 0 #6 November 12, 2005 QuoteQuote Think you'll want to jump camera? You'll need your C. Huh?I was under the impression [per discussions with instructors] that a C license is required to fly camera. Off to USPA.org... ...and it turns out it was a recommendation, not a requirement. Per section 6-8.E.c of the 2005 SIM: "A USPA C license is recommended [for camera flying]." My apologies for the confusion.I really don't know what I'm talking about. HydroGuy 0 #7 November 12, 2005 Come on dude, I'm an apsiring freeflyer dude...the only video I like is when I'm in it dude I guess it would "technically" allow me to land in a field with closer obstacles...but that's something either you can do, or not do...license has no bearing on the final outcome of that scenario.Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary

Sky15 0 #9 November 12, 2005 I think the DZ I jump at now requires a C to do high altitude jumps when they have them on occasion.
dbattman 0 #10 November 12, 2005 Do the paperwork and the test and keep it with you. You are now C 'qualified' which is generally accepted for license requirements (but not always).
sundevil777 102 #11 November 12, 2005 As others have said, there are some demos for which a C can get you in on the fun. Demos are fun, you'll regret it if one comes up and the only reason is that license.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
uponone 0 #12 November 12, 2005 Isn't it only $25? Maybe I'm to much of a newbie to understand this, but why wouldn't you? I got my B as soon as I got 50 jumps and have been able to do several night jumps and a jump out of a C-25 because of it.

HydroGuy 0 #14 November 12, 2005 QuoteAs others have said, there are some demos for which a C can get you in on the fun. Demos are fun, you'll regret it if one comes up and the only reason is that license. I guess if I want to travel to other DZ's where I don't know the S&TA's I should get it...seems to me a log book verifying jump #'s AND currency would be more applicable. That open field/level one demo is the only thing I can find that you actually NEED a C for...high altitude and camera jumps it is merely a recommendation. I actually tried to take the C exam at the same time as my B exam (~150 jumps), but apparently a Regional Director told the S&TA I am familiar with that the USPA frowns upon license exams taken before the minimum jump numbers have been met now. Seems like a stupid policy to me because what possible harm could come out of being able to pass a knowledge based test early? There are no requirements as to when you can complete your eight way or in air test. Or when your 2m accuracy landings start. Making you wait to take the test in essence probably causes more people to wait longer before they open their SIMs and study for the next level. Now I don't even want to waste my time taking the exam...Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
thepollster 0 #15 November 12, 2005 Quotethe USPA frowns upon license exams taken before the minimum jump numbers have been met They may frown on it, but last time I checked, it was allowed. In your situation, there doesn't seem to be a up-side to arguing that point. They are likely going to charge you for each test you take, whether you take them all at the same time or not. Having the paperwork done is not the same as having a license, if you don't have the jump numbers. If I were you, I would just document each requirement you complete of the C, and wait until you have 500 jumps and get the D. Unless you need the C for a competition or boogie, or just want it to have another license, it is a waste of money, IMHO.

philly51 0 #17 November 13, 2005 Depending on where you jump, some dzs set limits for jumping in winds that are not in the optimum range. Most use jump numbers (hard to verify) but have now switched to licenses. It's up to you. Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, Shouting "...holy shit...what a ride!" MarkM 0 #18 November 14, 2005 Quote Why bother getting anything more than a B, which lets me jump at night? You don't need a B to jump at night, you just need to be B qualified. I got my C so I could jump at a boogie that required it, otherwise I doubt I would've.
psf 1 #19 November 14, 2005 do you want a "D" license? If you don't then don't bother doing anything else. If you want the D, then you need to at least be B + C qualified in order to get the D. You don't need to spend the money for the license, but do need to do the required tests and be qualified before you can get the D.ignorance is not bliss
