Expired Cypres being sold on Ebay

Where do we draw the line between babysitting each other and just expecting people to be responsible for themselves? (in other words I'd never do what the cypres seller did, but I'm not ready to throw stones at him in judgement, either. But I do applaud warning others about his misleading ad - I'd do it myself, just not get all self righteous about it. Do we really need to get all worked up about it to get motivated to write a few e-mails?)

Considering the Cypres wouldn't likely have been purchased by an experienced jumper, it's fair to assume it would have been purchased by someone with little experience or, as we know almost happened, a wuffo spouse trying to purchase a life saving device, out of love and concern for her husband.

I don't see anyone being self-righteous about it and I'm certain the e-mails made the seller stop and think about the ethics of what he was doing. I applaud him for doing the right thing and correcting the misleading part of his ad.

This cypres is going to explode? Yikes!

A better analogy would be someone selling a Ford Laser (the Mexican version of the Mercury Tracer) in Chula Vista. Now, you can't get that car smogged in California, and it would thus behoove the seller to know what they were buying. But it might be a great deal for someone in Tijuana, which is a few miles down the road. Or perhaps even someone who needs a dirt cheap car to toodle around the DZ at Perris and pick up people who land out.

Now, if that person tried to sell the car as a Mercury Tracer, he'd be guilty of fraud. If he tried to sell it as a Ford Laser, then he would be 'legal' - but it would be nice of him to mention you can't get it smogged in the US.
