Thats it, im allowed to get on with it on my own. No more holding on to my instructors apron strings.

Passed AFF level 7 today. Lv 8 will be all solo and then my consols to. MWAHAHA! Cant wait to get back down there. Best thing of all is.. all the jumps are substantionally cheaper now and I also got enough money for a nice second hand rig (which my rigger is checking out friday might I add)

God I love this sport! I suppose im gonna get loads of 'the learnings only just begun' replies, but hey. So does the real fun

its good to get doing your consols, i've only done two consol jumps so far, its cool to be able to relax and not do any work if you don't want to. I just held a heading on mine and enjoyed the view

I think beer all round is worthwhile. Especially for the rigger checking my kit. Thanks Pete!

Its a Vector container (dont know DOM yet) with Sabre 2 - 230sq ft canopy (only has 30 jumps).
Raven reserve and cypres. BOC etc blah blah.

Just hoping itll fit me. Its only one available locally (that I know of) with suitable canopy size. Hope the harness fits now!

I did ask the question if itll be suibtable for transition to freefly and apparantly it most likely will be, just might need some extra length added to the vertical closing flaps, but he will let me know for definate when he inspects it. Im not looking to go straight into freefly anyway so it wont bother me that much!

Gonna be alot going on for me soon so dont wanna get overwhelmed, what with new rig, first solo jumps etc

try not to get caught up in jumping solo to much..
get all the coach jumps you can..
make friends with the local load organizer.. they will be waiting for you when you get your licnese.
I dont know anything about FF... but make sure you do your share of RW work ..
Im new too.. Im not really concentrating on anything other than belly flying for now..

What's wrong with just having a little fun? After the high demands of the AFF jumps, doing unstructured leaps are a joy. Don't have to finish the A requirements on time.

I didnt say it wasnt fun.. but I can see myself (dont know about anyone else) posibly creating bad habbits by jumping alone..
and if you dont think coach jumps are fun.. what is?
there is no time requirment.. but the longer you stay on student status.. the longer you are left with out choices..
If you cool with that.. then its all good..
I think skydiving is about the people and learning..
those are two things you cant really do alone.
It could be wrong for you.. but this is how it is working out for me..

I did 20 jumps solo and it was a total waste of $ and
total waste of 20 minutes of freefall time that I could
have been learning had I done some two ways. Solos
are great for hop & pops to play around with your canopy skills but a waste for freefall

i've loved going solo for two jumps... its nice to slowly build up some confidence. Yes, you've passed AFF but you're usually short of confidence... so i'm going to use my consol jumps to just get in the air and get confident i can stay stable and pull correctly, also think of any EP's that may need doing

Coach jumps were fun, but they were $104 each and had pass/fail components. They're training jumps. Not the ones to just look out and enjoy the view. To me that was one of the reasons to get trained to go alone. When I was cleared for solo, I enjoyed a number of those from two new airplanes (Caravan and Casa) at a new DZ. Then started again on the skills checklist.

You can learn quite a lot still on these solos - particularly the exit and the canopy flying. You're right in that it's difficult to tell if you're backsliding or not, or how ineffective your track might be.

So it's not a cry against learning, but one for pleasure jumps. And for those who might have it, to cut the instructor ambilical cord.

and I agree.. I had a blast on my solos.. but am looking forward to jumping with other people too.
