I hate packing SO GOD DAMNED MUCH [mad]

Recommended Posts

By the time I'm trying to roll that slippery fucking thing to put it in the tiny fucking bag, I don't care if I have a lineover, a total, or if the god damned thing bursts into flames.

The only reason I'm excited to downsize is so my canopy fits in the fucking d bag

Take it easy! I would fit better if you leave less air captured.

You have a really nice attitude. Its high time to start putting some trust into your packjobs.

What kind of problem do you have anyway?B|

This kills me ('cause I was almost there a couple of weeks ago with a new canopy).

Here's how I handled it:

I. Asked. For. Help. Baggin'. The. Damned. Thing.

Yep. Asked for help the first 3 or 4 packjobs. And while there *was* some low-level snickering, I got it done. Now, with 9 jumps on it, I can get it in the bag, solo. It's still not pretty, but it seems to open the same.

YMMV

It's so slippery that when I roll it (psycho pack), I can't even get a grip on all the layers of material, and eventually everything just squirts out at the other end of the roll. Even if I jam it all into the bag, which takes 20 minutes, the rubber bands break because I have to stretch them so much to close the damned bag. >:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(

I'm literally replacing the locking stows EVERY jump at this point.

I did that on the first pack job, it took someone with about 2,000 jumps damned near 15 minutes to get it bagged, and he was cursing and grunting the whole time.

Well, I've been wondering how much force it takes to pull 'n' punch the cutaway cables, now I know. It's time for 30 day maint anyway, so I daisy chained the lines, tied the risers together, cut it away (good thing I remembered to disconnect the RSL...) and jammed it in a garbage bag. I'll put all new rubber bands on and try again tomorrow at the DZ.

Let me guess. You have bought a new canopy :).
I have tried to roll, no use.
You have to do a different way may be :).

It's got about 110 jumps on it. I'm thinking of packing it on grass just to put some wear on it and make it less slippery.

Roll the tail tight! You are safe as long the tail is closed.

That's another thing. I roll the tail, and it just slips itself loose again. >:(

I could deal with all the frustration if it fit into the bag, but it doesn't. *sigh* Oh well. I'll put a few hundred jumps on it and buy a 190 of the same model.

Really? So hold-roll-pull-hold and go downwards.

Getting loose? Just don't let it go. If you watch reverse-bagging, you may hold it in your left until you put it into the bag.

I suppose you PRO-pack. Hold the canopy with your left hand nad roll the tail with your right against your leg/body. Put it down, but don't let it go. Put your right knee on the slider part, grab the end of roll with your left.

Dude, here's a way to cheat the bagging:

Make your 2nd 's' fold first and put the top of the parachute in the bag nice an neat, then make your 1st 's' fold second and just stuff that thing where its supposed to go and it will fill the bag!

It might not be pretty, but at least you don't have to pull it out like a pansy

Dude,

If you are rolling the tail hold that roll with one hand as you are setting the canopy down until you lay down on the heart shape of the pack job to get the air out. Once you have your body pressure on it then you can release the roll with your hand. Once you are at this point tuck the sides of the pack job under it'sself so that the cocoon is now one inch wider than the bag on each side as you are continuing to lay on it. Now with your knees on the data panel of the canopy, and you standing on your knees, pull the packjob up into your chest. YOu can still be squeezing air out of the pack job with a good hug. Love the canopy. Once you have most of the air out and with your knees still on the datapanel of the canopy, roll the top of the packjob down to the top of your knees. Once you get to this point move your knees of the datapanel and just lay the roll part of the pack job back onto the datapanel. It should look all rolled up with one half of an s fold on the bottom. While maintaining pressure on the top of the pack job with your hands, and the left side of the pack job with your left knee, slide the right side of the pack job into the right side of the bag. Now pull the lef side of the bag around the left side of the canopy, and viola you are bagged. If this advise doesn't help you out I highly suggest that you start drinking heavily.

how many pack jobs are you up to now?

It got a lot better for me 20-30 in. Earlier I was all about the losing weight so I could downsize immediately to a smaller canopy. (or pay packers).
I'd pack the first load of the day, then punt. Now I can get the tri 220 done as quickly as one turn of an Otter.

I've got about 30 pack jobs, but only 4 or 5 on this canopy, 2 of which I actually jumped. I can flat pack a Raven IV in 13-15 minutes, but this thing takes me about an hour :(

I can relate. In my opinion, packing is the shitty part of skydiving. I have a new zp 190 and have only been able to get it into the bag once or twice by myself. I have about 25 jumps on it. I plan to let packers do it until I have a few more jumps on it hoping it will be easier then.

I feel like an idiot watching someone else pack it while all the other skydivers are packing their own, but I figure I would rather get on the next load than spend two hours wrestling with it after each jump.

Anybody else at your DZ jumping a similar sized canopy that they're packing OK? Try watching them closely (or asking them) for some tips and techniques.

Generally, it all comes down to control...but the most common newbie mistake I see is trying to use just your hands. It's a war, man! Use all the tools at your disposal: hands, arms, knees, elbows. Ever watch a small woman pack a large tandem canopy? It's actually kinda arousing to watch, as they are generally moving over that canopy with their whole body. ;) Anyway, good luck, and remember that no matter how pissed you are now, it does get better with time.

I recommend packing it on grass, as it adds a small amount of humidity to the fabric and makes it slightly "sticky". I have owned 2 brand new spectres and used this method with great success.

I know what you mean about bagging... it is like trying to kneel on a stack of watermelon seeds >:(

I have found with the psycho pack that when I roll the canopy, after getting the apex tucked in the fabric, I put my thumbs in each side & roll it slowly that way -- very little fabric squirting that way. Hope it helps. (BTW, I'm fitting a 170 into a 150 D-bag this way) It can also help to rest your palms on the canopy one roll short of putting the D-bag on it for just a minute, it helps squish out any extra air in the canopy.

HAH! I WIN! WHAT NOW BITCH????

EDIT: Only problem is that I used so many rubber bands from my non-locking stows to replace the locking stows, that I can't close the container until I add another band and do one more line stow.
