canopy size?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,
i`ve just completed my aff course and 10 consolidation jumps and am completly consumed by the sport to the point of selling my beloved GSXR-1000K3(motorcycle) for skydiving gear! I intend to buy a decent second hand rig and need to know the correct size canopy for my 70kg(11st) frame? On my aff I used a 200 which i found good fun but quite tame, my instructor who is also a CH instructor said that i was a natural with a canopy! Hopefully that dosen`t sound too big headed that`s just what he said, so i would like to go as extreeme as i can without taking the piss with my limited expierience.Any advice on this subject would be much welcomed. Thanx.

something in between the size 190 or 170. If you could get some more jumps on a rental gear you could go for the 170. If you want to buy something straight away you might take it a bit slower and go for the 190...
I would prefer a 9cell canopy like a Sabre, Safire, Pilot ..... whatever you get in this country...

Save "extreme" for when you know WTF you are doing. What you need now is a canopy that is docile enough to keep you safe when you screw up (yes, even "naturals" screw up on occasion). Once you've learned to fly the snot out of that, then it's time to think about going smaller/faster/more aggressive.

What she said.

I sooooo dislike that freaking works extreme anyways.

Get a canopy that will let you learn, loaded around 1:1 (thats out-the-door weight, so 70 kg = 155 lbs + 30 lbs for the rig, say a 190 canopy); but take these recommendations as very broad and talk to your instructors.
