May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey

I don't know all of the nitty gritty details of what's been going on in Brush (and believe me I know more than what I let on to know, but I still don't know much compared to the actual Brush people). But it really is sad to see how things have transpired here. Brush without a doubt is a family. Dysfunctional yes, but a family nonetheless (if there was any doubt, which there shouldn't be, their family was there in mass this last weekend at the Moab boogie). I don't know much about what's been going on down in Canon City as it's been 2+ years since I've jumped there. But the jumping scene here in Colorado need not be as bad as some people make it out to be. Colorado is a great place to skydive. It's no accident that I've made the respectible number of jumps that I've made in my short time in this sport. Despite what some (southern acclaimated people think), the weather here in Colorado is some of the best weather you'll find anywhere when you consider we jump all 12 months of the year.

Mile-Hi is the largest DZ in the state and yes in the past it (the past being the key word here) for sure had that "Tandem Factory" label. But Frank is taking this DZ to a new level what with his new Otter, the swoop pond and the planned hangars.

Brush has always been about having fun at their DZ. Sure their idea of fun may be different from others, but rest assured, they are having fun. Their weather (IMHO) isn't as good as what happens in Longmont, but sending up X number of loads per day has never been their priority. Their priority seems to be "let's welcome everyone who visits our DZ into our family ... as dysfunctional as we may be". And yes Brush has one of the worst Farmer McNasty's you will ever meet. I've got to think that their DZ wouldn't be going through what they've been having to go through if it wasn't for this nut case.

So please people ... let it go. Yes there is some good shit happening at Mile-Hi right now, but let's not forget that there IS a market for a DZ in Brush. Not everyone likes to jump at a large DZ. Some people like jumping at the smaller DZ like what Brush has to offer. My days (at least in the short term future) are numbered here in Colorado. But bickering amougst each other is not sending out the right message to those outside of Colorado. This state is one of the best places to live (once again in my humble opinion) and I would love to come back here in the not too distant future and see a thriving DZ in Longmont, Brush and yes Canon City as well.

Please people, as long as they're jumping safely (sure we've all made mistakes in the past), let's leave the Brush people to be what they're best at. Being Brush people. It can be a fun place to jump at if you arrive there with the right attitude. And for the Brush people, be yourself, be smart, be safe ... have fun like we know you can. ;)

PS: This post was not direct at you Mary, you just happened to be the last one in the queue.

My,my my--its really heartwarming to see how many of you out there are so interested in the future and well-being of little drop-zone. I had no idea we were so important to all of you that you would take what must be hours (and hours and hours) out of your otherwise busy lives discussing and sorting out our business! Unfortunately, with the exception of MikeyB and Coloradosky, none of you really know the details, truth, or validity of what you're talking about. I logged on here the other night and actually wasn't even going to reply to any of it, but after three pages---THREE PAGES!! of comments from people who may or may not even know any of us personally--well, I just couldn't help myself. Flyangel, I can't tell you how disappointed and heartbroken we all are that we won't be getting your support--but I believe we'll get by just fine without it. And Spizzarko---I have lived in/around Brush for a long, long time, and I take exception to you calling Brush a "shit hole farming community" and complaining about the smell of cowshit. Some of us here have real indoor plumbing--with hot and cold running water even. Not eveybody wears cowboy boots, and not everybody drives a pick-up truck. Some people, believe it or not, have college educations and can spell and form intelligent sentences--a rarity these days, I know. The point is, Brush is a country town, there's no doubt about that, but its full of good people, 99% of whom are behind us all the way. I know that because everywhere I go I'm asked how things are going and "when are we going to be back home full-time." We have one person--ONE PERSON--who has been raising a fuss about the DZ for as long as we've been a DZ. If he didn't have us to complain about, he'd find something else to complain about. Everybody in the county knows him--I'm of course speaking of the local Farmer McNasty--and no one really takes him too seriously. He just can't get over the fact that he can't feed his cattle--oh, God--cattle--for free like he could before the birth of the first dropzone way back when. Our problems with City Council are totally politically motivated, everyone wants to claim a bit of power and control, and they can't even get along with each other, much less anyone else. But there's an election coming up. So, while I'm sure that there are those who are just waiting with baited breath for the next gems of wisdom to come falling out of our mouths, we at Coloradoskysports, are not among them. As I see it, if you're not willing to be part of the solution, then you are, and continue to be, part of the problem.
PS. The people who jump at our DZ have so much fun that they never even notice the smell of cowshit.

Heck, I lived in the second largest metropolitan area in the US for 4 years... The apartment I lived in seemed to have neither running water, nor hot water, on a regular basis... I should have relocated a long time ago.

There are a lot of people out here that wish all DZs in Colorado success... Good luck and hope to see ya around some day. T.

As far as I know Skip is not a poster on here, so you might not technically be breaking any rules, but - cut it out. If you want to post something factual that Skip did, fine. If not, then avoid such personal attacks.

"The people who jump at our DZ have so much fun that they never even notice the smell of cowshit. "

So you do agree that it smell like cow shit. Good for those of you have college degree's.

"As I see it, if you're not willing to be part of the solution, then you are, and continue to be, part of the problem"

Really? I think those of us who do not jump out at Brush have decided to do so for one reason or another. That being said, How can we be part of a problem when we do not frequent your DZ? Riddle me that Batman...

Moderators are not the be all to end all. They do a good job most of the time, but much of what is written here is very subjective, and can be interperated to be what it wasn't meant to be. If moderators have problems with something that might be vague, they should pm the person who wrote it and ask them to clarify with an edit. Some of them don't do that, but some do. We have rules on this site for a reason, but sometimes Sangiro's police officers interperate the rules differently.

You say "Better to say OK and walk away than to question the one with the pitchfork."

I say: Whatever... This thread is useless for the most part. The Brush owners are getting their just deserves for their past lawlesness and reckless abandon.

There are rules to prevent people from harming others and rules to prevent people from harming themselves. I think even you can understand the difference.

I don't think that what happens at Brush is any different than what happens at alot of other DZ's. The only difference is the level of denial.

Some say "industrial haze", we say clouds. But we all jump just the same.

Maybe, but I bet the City of Brush talks about it even more, which is bad for you.

Couldn't agree more.

Of course, the issues they are concerned about have never been against the rules. But thank goodness there are concerned skydivers out there to tell them otherwise.

So what is up about this phantom prop strike that I hear about?

Okay, since you just have to know:

The prop will be back from the shop soon. Please excuse the inconvenience, I know you were really looking forward to jumping here, but it will just have to wait a moment.

Need more info? Ask us in person.

Feel better?
