sleddog 0 #1 September 15, 2005 Any other concerns? I want to add some different planes to my "Jump Plane List"
mr2mk1g 10 #2 September 15, 2005 I've jumped out of a Cherokee in use as a standard jump plane. I don't recall if the door was removed though but it was set up and approved for S/L jumps so I doubt there are any major concerns about the plane in and of itself. Mike111 0 #3 September 15, 2005 ive jumped out of a PA32 , which is the standard student (midweek) jump plane i think. It was very comfortable.
Stumpy 284 #4 September 15, 2005 A friend of mine is getting an 80% size spitfire replica. I want to jump out of that but haven't worked out the logistics yet......!Never try to eat more than you can lift
tombuch 0 #5 September 15, 2005 Never tried a Cherokee, but I've jumped a few 150's. I've always left the door on, but made sure to cover any extending handles or hardware that might snag my equipment. If the pilot puts the airplane in a slip it's pretty easy to open the door. CAUTION: Flying a plane at low airspeed in an uncoordinated slip can be very dangerous. Be careful who you use as a jump pilot. I think one of my favorite jumps was from an AgCat, a single seat cropdusting bi-plane. There weren't any conventional seats for jumpers, and the chemical hopper had stuff in it, so two of us took off sitting on the big yellow benches that stick out from the airframe. There were even these cool wire handles to hang onto as the airplane climbed. What a blast, but probably not legal. .Tom Buchanan Instructor Emeritus Comm Pilot MSEL,G Author: JUMP! headoverheels 333 #8 September 15, 2005 I've jumped out of these. No door to remove, just open the canopy. You're not supposed to open it more than a few inches in flight, but maybe it's been done
riggerrob 643 #9 September 15, 2005 Piper PA32 Cherokee Six is no big deal, just remove the aft passenger door and baggage door. A few schools used Cherokee Sixes for regular jump planes. Great for tandems, but a bitch for AFF. The only difficulty is spotting by trying to look under the wing flap (usually extended on jump run.)
JohnMitchell 16 #10 September 15, 2005 I've done a C210 with the door still on. Have the pilot slip hard right and push your way out. Watch the handles. Jumped from the back seat of a Citabria. Dorr off, squeeze past pilot, crouch on the step and go. Watch your handles. My favorite was a two seat ultralight, an MX-2. No place to put your feet, so you just kind of push yourself up and out, over the front. Cool.
scrublink 0 #11 September 15, 2005 Non jump planes? If it flies, you can figure out a way to jump it. I once saw a three way taken off the wing of a PA-28. Thats the four seat Cherokee. And their was a guy who jumped out of the hopper (clean and unused) of a Pipe Pawnee.

Rookie120 0 #14 September 16, 2005 I jumped from a Cherokee 140 before. We took the door off. No big deal there but the manual states you have to put a placard on the instrument panel stating what the limits of the aircraft are for operation with the door removed. We did that because we wanted to do everything legally. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!
jimmytavino 16 #15 September 16, 2005 made 4 jumps at an airshow a long time ago out of a Tri-Pacer... ( a little Like a P Cub.) we took the door Off.. and my buddy and I took turns, since One jumper with gear maxxed out the "passenger" compartment..... fall rate issues...) hahahahaha exited with the gear folded away... riggerrob 643 #18 September 17, 2005 Breezy. That bench seat really does get an inch smaller with every thousand feet of altitude.
franshash 0 #19 September 18, 2005 Oooooooo! Piper Tri Pacer................ I recall 4 of us squeezed in one of those once. It was a case of 'someone hold onto me till altitude (2000 ish feet and someone push me out when we get there please cos I can't move otherwise' F x

That will get you outboard of the horizontal stabilizer. Actually, the downwash blows you below it. Remember that the jumper on the wing is like a big spoiler, and expect at least a 500 fpm descent, even at Vy. Have fun! Harry"Harry, why did you land all the way out there?
