GrendelKhan 0 #1 September 26, 2005 hey gang, well I'm a few weeks away from my first jump and ive spent the last coupl eof days watching football and surfing all the sky diving sites. As I poked around i had a couple of general curiousity type questions. First, what discipline(s) does everybody study? When and why did you chose that? I just read about a bunch of different disciplines and would really like to get ina little of everything. Is it possible to jump from one discipline to another/ Also, at what point did yall decide it was time to buy your own gear? How many jumps did you take before it was time to upgrade to the custom canopy? Im just curious. I injured my leg playing softball on Friday, so Im trrying to keep myself entertained while Im laid up. tdog 0 #3 September 26, 2005 I am only one year and 230 jumps into my skydiving career, and I can say that I have a "to do list" that is still many, many pages long... I jump from a few disciplines, (Tracking, RW, and just learning freefly) so yes, people jump around... But, I spent the first 210 jumps getting "good" at RW, even though I am still not "good" in terms of what the "pros" do. QuoteAlso, at what point did yall decide it was time to buy your own gear? When you know you are hooked and you have settled into something that might last you a few hundred jumps. I ordered mine at jump 30, but it did not come in until I had 60 jumps... Thank god the gear shop I purchased from had free loaners for customers...
AggieDave 6 #4 September 26, 2005 Good questions. Generally speaking you really should spend your first 100 jumps (atleast) learning how to fly RW before moving on to another discipline. I made the mistake of starting to Freefly on jump 31, that hurt me later on down the line in my skydiving career. You can always switch to other styles of skydiving. Personally, I've done Freefly, gone back to RW, tried out Wingsuits, swoop and have been known to take people on tandems (as well as coach students). That is something that is so great about our sport, when ever you start to get bored of something, you can try something else in the sport and have another 1000 jumps to start learning that style before moving on again.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
