xavenger 0 #1 September 6, 2005 Well, sorry to clutter up the board with a post of very little interest but in the absence of any one else around me this evening who cares in any capacity about Skydiving - I had to get this off my chest and tell someone! After an accident on my 200th jump back in July 2004 when I broke my tib/fib/foot/knee etc I am about to return to the skies tomorrow. I'm excited - but cannot quite believe just how nervous I am. I think I will be shitting myself, hopefully not literally. My non-skydiving buddies just don't get why I want to return to the sport especially in light of my "healthy but sizeable apprehension" but as I keep trying to explain to them, the greatest things in life are rarely easy. See you in the skies soon. :-) J

NtheSeaOrSky 0 #4 September 6, 2005 You might just be surprised. Our brains try to warn us and play on our dislike of getting hurt. I thought I was gonna be a mess, too. THe anticipation of the jump was the worst, once I boarded the plane strangely enough, I became super calm and wathcing the ground disappear, it was like being home and the apprehension non existant. Even if this doesnt happen for you, once you exit and the brain switches to okay-now-i-got-to-focus-on-what-i-am-doing-here it will all be good Life is not fair and there are no guarantees... jumpjunkie2004 0 #8 September 7, 2005 I broke my ankle (jump 7), but I got right back on the horse as soon as the doctor said I could. The only person that "got it" was my mother. When I called her to tell her I broke my ankle skydiving, she said, "How long will it be before you can jump again?" It validates how well she knows me. My friends were all saying, "I'll bet you will never do that again." My reply, "You are absolutely right. I will never again panic and flare at 25 feet." I'm sure with your jump numbers it will come right back to you. Let us know how it goes!Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...
ChrisL 2 #9 September 7, 2005 Welcome back James! For myself, if I ever leave this sport I want it to be by my own carefully considered conscious choice. Not because an injury took me out without my say-so.__ My mighty steed
Biene 0 #10 September 7, 2005 I am still recovering from my broken tib/fib. It happend 8 weeks ago. I expect to be back skydiving next spring - I already feel apprehensive about my first landings. Hearing your own bones snap is very unnerving. Let us know how your first jump back went! What sort of a canopy will you be jumping? Are you going back to a larger size canopy for a while?
