Mike111 0 #1 August 28, 2005 .... what was your greatest fear? Just curious to know what other people's fears were when then were training? myne: door exit and not panicking (being worked on) mike
NWFlyer 2 #2 August 28, 2005 I had a tough time with stable exits, so I'd say that was my greatest fear when I was a student. Learning to really "trust the arch" was a wonderful breakthrough for me."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
MB38 0 #3 August 28, 2005 It was the fear of the unknown. I had very minor nervousness on the first jump... I still haven't figured out why I wasn't more scared. It disappeared by the second jump and it's weirding me out. I'm just not nervous anymore... out of the Otter. My Skyvan exit had me nervous, but that was another "fear of the unknown" thing. Doesn't phase me anymore. Stability had me worried, but I solved that with 10 minutes of tunnel time. Again, fear of the unknown. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to land solo, but looking at the horizon to judge altitude actually works. Fear of the unknown. See a trend? I really don't know what I'm talking about. Fab 0 #4 August 28, 2005 My first clear and pull at 3500ft after AFF...damn..that seemed so low ..really freaked me out...Especially because my first c&p wasn't good enough according to the jumpmaster and I had to repeat it .. _______________________________________
Sled14 0 #5 August 28, 2005 Landing at a certain point, close to it. I feel very comfortable in freefall, but last time I had to do 4 90degree turns, 2 180degree turns, and 2 360degree turns, plus the pilot dropped us a little far, so ended up decending real quick because of the turns and had to land downwind because of being too low. Probably the worst jump so far for me, but now I now I'm done with having to do 8 turns before landing and know to pay more attention to the alti

ltdiver 3 #8 August 28, 2005 Performance anxiety. I wanted to do everything perfect the first time through. Oh, and to keep from flipping over with a 60 pound student rig on my back.... Never did, but think military gear with a Goliath 378 square foot canopy and a round reserve on my back! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
AlexCrowley 0 #9 August 28, 2005 Wasnt scared at all on the first 5 jumps last year. Then I started getting more and more freaked out each jump, mostly of the door, then just about the exit itself. This year no such problem except on the recurrency after the 6 month layoff. Now I just worry about the money situation or making a stupid decision at some point. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.

thegreekone 0 #11 August 28, 2005 Quote.... what was your greatest fear? Not finding throw-out handle. You spend all your time LOOKING for stuff before you grab and/or pull, so when I had to grab something I couldn't see... My five second delay was more like a 5 tenths of a second delay. It was a little embarrassing at the time. I am not sure I cleared the step of that Cessna
 Andy_Copland 0 #12 August 28, 2005 My first jump was the calmest. I was sitting shitting myself and was looking around the plane at all the faces. Then the S/L students went out, some were great and some screamed on the way out. At that point i smiled and realised we are all on the same boat and to chill out. I was confident in my instructors and leaped out nicely. Now im on my own i shit myself My main fear isn't the parachute malfunctioning, its going unstable. Safe Jumping Andy1338 People aint made of nothin' but water and shit. I worried when I had about 100 jumps that there was some thing wrong with me cause I was still scared. I went to the most respected person on the DZ and sat down and had a nice heart to heart talk with him. He told me that the second I stop being scared, I better leave the sport. I had occasions of major fear about being insecure in the harness, and falling out, or it breaking, or something. Almost always it was when under canopy. I think it was never an issue in freefall, or when opening, just when I was flying my canopy around did I worry about it. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
 huka551 0 #18 August 29, 2005 This is the dumbest thing, but I was afraid of falling out of the plane!
