what to expect on my Level IV Solo?

Recommended Posts

Nothing new, just canopy skills come into play more. I know by level 4, they were giving me minimal radio assistance and on 5, i had no assistance at all and I set up my own landing pattern.....

Get out there, have fun, relax, and go do it.....
Puttin' some stank on it.

Sounds to me that you did tandems as a method of training, and this will be your first solo?
Where I jump at I always ask my instructor what the spot is, we have a giant arial photo taken from altitude and we go over the spot together including where we are expected to be at once we are open. Then I ask where the best place is to hang out and fly my canopy until 1500 where I generally start my landing pattern. Having this info before the jump and actually looking at it on the photo is very helpful as you won't be flying all over the place trying to figure out where the hell you are! You will probably have radio assistance? So listen carefully to what they tell you to do and don't forget to flare!;)
Also remember, the best advice you can get is from a qualified instructor, not in these forums! Good luck and keep us posted as to how it went!:)

failed the jump---as usual, my arching...and i couldn 't arch properly which meant i couldnt find my ripcord....canopy control was good he said, landed fine...just the freefall dive flow ---scary for my 1st solo, but i dont mind its ok..as long as i landed safley on my own, then in my mind, it was an ok jump...

Dont get discouraged... You had fun right? And you made it to the ground safely, that sounds like a successful skydive to me.

You will get it, its hard to learn something new in such a short time :)

What do you do when someone throws a big planet at you?
Throw your pilot chute in defense!

Hi. With me even though I passed all my AFF levels the first time, if I got a hand signal it was always ARCH. All of my shakiness and stability problems felt better when I really felt that relaxed arch and managed to keep it in my head. As for under canopy, remember you square, stable, slider, and steerable, stay out of the clouds, get a feel for flying, and don't forget to smile.
Ordinary's..... just not good enough today.
