airtwardo 7 #1 August 4, 2005 Just a word of caution to those with RK... I lost my sunglasses on what was supposed to be a sub terminal demo jump last week. The guy I was supposed to be pulling on had a problem and we took it down considerably lower and FASTER than I'd planned for. Long story short, the wind tore my eyeball at an RK scar point. NOT something I would recommend to anyone! Doc says no permanent damage should result...but it really FREAKIN' hurts...and I'm out of the air for 30 days. lesson learned....no more sunglasses for me..EVER in freefall! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
Guest #2 August 4, 2005 hope that heals okay. I've considered eye surgery for a while, if I ever do it it'll be over the winter. Does the doc say that you are lucky or unlucky? Lucky it's only 30 days to heal, or unlucky that anything happenned at all? And if you don't mind, how long ago was the rk? months-year-lotsa years? (I dunno if RK is one of the older types of surgery or not, I'd have to go look it up, and I'm too damn tired & lazy.) blue ones You can have it good, fast, or cheap: pick two. RK with a KNIFE! ...never had a problem before, but I'm told it tore the lens right at a scar point...leaking like a bitch and hurts like a HOT iron sticking in there! Doc says I was 'lucky' because it could have been MUCH worse....! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
 RichardR 0 #4 August 4, 2005 Airtwardo: 120 mph wind isn't great for any eye, even if it has never had surgery. It can pop small blood vessels on the surface of the eye. Not very attractive in the short term. Hope you heal quick! I was diving when my glasses came off, so I was going considerably faster than 120...I thought at first the glasses poked me in the eye when they came off because it hurt almost immediately, but the lens was actually 'ripped' right at one of the 4 cut points. Doc said an impact injury would have been much different. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
 peregrinerose 0 #6 August 4, 2005 Every surgery has risks/side effects. This is one of them. The cornea has no blood supply, so it takes years to heal back to the strength it was prior to surgery. 30 days definitely gets things tacked down and healed to a fairly safe degree, but deeper corneal injury to the stroma (middle layer of the cornea) from surgery or from prior eye injury tends to be a bit weaker at the location of the trauma. This doesn't mean not to have surgery, just be aware of what can happen as a result, make an educated decision, and take as many precautions as possible to prevent problems down the road. Hope you are doing better quickly though!! Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
 airtwardo 7 #7 August 4, 2005 Thanls for the advice... I'll wear much better protection from now on... Question you may be more familiar with than my Doc... Is opening shock something I should be concerned with for the near future? I keep having thoughts of all the eyeball innerds squishing out! The 30 days was kind of an agreed upon minimum, I 'jump for money' and taking the summer off really isn't an option...yet! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
 peregrinerose 0 #8 August 4, 2005 I don't know of any whiplash induced injuries from refractive surgery. I suppose it could happen, but isn't really likely. The eyeball guts are held back by the natural lens of the eye, so I doubt the innards will come flying out of there Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
 airtwardo 7 #9 August 4, 2005 I doubt the innards will come flying out of there Quote Well at least I got THAT goin' for me!
