bigway 4 #1 July 9, 2005 i am about to make my first jump here in the uk and i am wondering about my reserve pack. I think i have heard that if you jump gear in the uk it must have the red cotton tied around the reserve pin. Is this correct? my reserve was packed two months ago in new zealand and does not have this. I am wondering if i am allowed to jump this or not in this country. Also how often does the reserve need to be repacked in this country? Cheers in advance for any advice.... Yes that was the word 'first'! Also does anyone know what is going on at weston this weekend? are there many jumpers about? .Karnage Krew Gear Store .
BASE813 0 #2 July 9, 2005 I have never had red cotton tied around my reserve pin, as long as your documentation is in date and checked by the CCI / other designated person and accepted you should be fine. The UK reserve pack cycle is 6 months. Also I hear that there are a bunch of people at weston this weekend............

dropoutdave 0 #4 July 9, 2005 Yeah you should be fine, I brought my rig over from Sth Africa and they let me jump it no problems. When i've had my reserve repacked over here and in Empuria the rigger tied red cotton on the reserve lines but I think that is just personal preference. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces...... skytash 0 #5 July 11, 2005 In the UK seals are not a requirement. Advanced Packers don't usually have seals, but can re-pack reserved. As no seal is required, I wouldn't think anyone cares about the positioning of the cotton. tashDon't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Dazzle 0 #6 July 11, 2005 The positioning does matter, there was a post on here sometime recently which said that there was a specified way of sealing in the uk. The post had to do with E (?) thread being used instead of sealing thread and being done so that the pin wouldn't pull, someone responded with the bpa specified way that won't keep the pin closed. Despite that, as you said they're not required.
mr2mk1g 10 #7 July 11, 2005 One other quirk that might catch you is that our repack cycle is 6 months unless packed by a foreign rigger in which case it is 6 months or whatever the foreign pack cycle is if that is shorter. So if for example a visiting American comes here their reserve is good for 120 days just like at home. If they have it packed here though it's good for 6 months. I guess this only makes a difference if NZ has a shorter repack cycle... which I don't know off hand but I'm sure you do.

vt1977 0 #9 July 11, 2005 Where in London are you? Headcorn is open midweek and very easily accessible by train from London Bridge/Charing Cross/Waterloo East - journey time is about an hour. Vicki

Andrewnewell 0 #11 July 12, 2005 If your after a reliable repack check out Point Zero rigging in Tidworth. Dave Gould is the chief rigger there and is one of the best around!
