One less for Skyride

Recommended Posts

although I have refrained from posting I just thought I would let everyone know that while surfing ebay, I came upon a ad for skyride... UGH and well it had one bid. I proceeded to message the bidder. I asked that he check out dz.com and do a search for skyride. He retracted his bid. I then sent him the links for dropzones in his area (PA) I know, it was only one person I saved from this scam but it felt good to be nice for once.

Was it an ad, or an auction of a certificate already purchased by someone?
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

Glad you could stick your nose in someone elses business.....

Arming someone with the information needed to make a good choice is not sticking your nose anywhere. Information allows people to not repeat others mistakes. Good job.

JP-What do you think of things like Consumer Digest?

Was that truely their motive? Or was it to hurt SkyRide?

Once again, I'll point out that stooping to the methods of the organization you resent makes you no better than them.

Consumer Digest informs. Factualy. It has never had the motive of shutting down a company, has never conducted in the practice of slander, and has never whined about things not being "fair".

I'm no fan of SkyRide, but rather than participating or aligning ones self with a witchhune, I'd rather pursue legal action for wrongs done. Or maybe even filling the function they are but doing it better!

Spreading good info about their bad ways is a good way to go about things.

Sort of like when you find stolen gear on Ebay, you contact the seller and tell them, giving them sources. Or you could just ignore it JP, since that's what you seem to want us to do.

See, that's just good information sharing. They can check if they want, you're not spreading a bad vibe, you're just showing a source to check out if they wish. Hell, that's not even an effort on your part. Just a good and legal way to spread information to those that need it.

And why? What good have you done for that person. Are you able to guarentee that they found a happy alternitive, or did you turn someone off from this sport because of that.

Oh, that's right, you should support a company that has stolen thousands of dollars worth of copywrited material to simply get one more person to jump. A company that tries to scam DZs out of money with unethical tax practices.

***but then again, if they were supporting me also, i might think differently

Funny how that works, huh Mark? Ethics be damned, right? If someone is getting their back scratched, then its hard to not support the ones doing the scratching. Eventually the skydiving community will look past this and see how much better everyone would be doing in a business sense, ethical sense as well as just as a community when Skyride has been put to pasture.

I turned him onto DZ.com, and the dropzone listings as well as a utopia of information. When he responded to me I told him that any question he ever has as it relates to skydiving can be found.

Nice. Since your mind is so clouded with hate for something I'll overlook the BS rant in your post.

So you insinuate that I suport SkyRide. I don't. Never done business with them.

What you have failed to do is show any sort of restraint or drive to actually fix what you see as a problem. Instead you have made the whole of skydivers seem like a bunch of whiney children.

Other than those that can show FACTUAL legal transgressions (such as the theft of photographs) none of you have shown anything really positive.

In the wuffo world there are hundreds of organizations that perform the same function as SkyRide. 1-800-Dentist, 1-800-Florist, etc. Where are any of you to chanpion the cause of the underdog dentist who doesn't think it fair. Hell in skydiving there is 1-800-Skydive. Who's protesting that?

Without defending SkyRide, I know of several DZ's that can only thank SkyRide for helping them to be more sucessfull in a harsh economy when fun jumpers are unwilling to go and give their support.

Don't like it? Make your own company.

Watch what you say. If you are acusing me of being aligned with SkyRide in anyway, you'd be mistaken, and incidentialy pretty much showing your ass....

Here's the thing. Barring those that have a legitimit legal beef, the rest of you have arguments that fallflat on their faces very shortly. Then it degenerates int personal attacks. I've never defended SkyRide, and all I've ever done is sugest ways to change the problem.

I have never accepted one dime of SkyRides profits.

Firstly, successful DZs have facilities and AC to support their student business (not just tandems, but all students). If they need fun jumpers to survive then they're stretching too thin to begin with.

Here you go. A good while back, (a couple of years ago) before the Skyride problem had reached a head and facts started coming out, a DZ I know used them a bit. They refused to stop sending their certificates to us after multipul statements that we didn't take them (they were gouging our prices). Then after the fiscal year, they sent them tax forms (can't remember the form number right now) as per a business using contract labor. That was putting the DZ, an independant business, in a situation that legally suggested they were a contract laborer for Skyride. The implications from a business ownership stand point are staggering. Now to continue, the sales tax (etc) involved with transactions for skydiving are included in the price, the DZ pays them, end of story. If you buy a skydive for someone else, you deal with the taxes yourself within the price presented. Taxing outside of that, if you're a resaler, is apart of your pricing stratagy.

You do not setup a system in which you have the wholesaler pay your sales tax as a retailer. Period.

That was said in a general statement in regards to how people tend to react to Skyride. Not directed towards you. If you have a guilty concious, that's your problem. I've never personally met you and have no clue if you do business with them or not. If you do, fine, I feel sorry for you.

Call me names if you like, it doesn't bother me, but feel free to respond to the things I posted if you truely can.

A 1099MISC form, line 7, "Non-employee compensation?"

If so, that is required by the IRS. Our company, with millions in revenue, and hundreds of employees, receives the same form from our customers every year. All it tells the IRS is that you received money from another business, which is revenue you can expense against.

While I don't want to say my comments about skyride, if they DID NOT send this 1099 form, they could have been fined by the IRS. Sounds 100% legit to me.

No, that wasn't it. Damnit with being tired and it being late, I can't remember exactly what it was but that wasn't it.

Oh well, maybe it'll come to me in the morning, but screw it for now, the weery need sleep.
