clint 1 #1 June 20, 2005 you owned a small dz and your pilot just picked up his things and left with a 5am phone message. Leaving you with NO pilot in the meantime. What would you do? Besides hire a new pilot.

quade 4 #5 June 20, 2005 Ok, I know it happens, but frankly I can't understand, especially at a small single Cessna DZ where the DZO isn't also a commercial pilot just to handle situations like this. It's not like being a commercial pilot is like being an astronaut or something and presumably the DZO has access to the aircraft so, why the heck not? If it's YOUR business, learn how all the jobs work!quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Zep 0 #6 June 20, 2005 Start looking for a new pilot as soon as the sun rises What else can you do. Gone fishing
clint 1 #7 June 20, 2005 Ya right. In dream world I could fly this plane. >It's not like being a commercial pilot is like being an astronaut or something and presumably the DZO has access to the aircraft so, why the heck not? Because I have 0 hrs flying and the insurance requires 750 hours of flying. Do the math man, you have to be rich to get those 750hrs and not to mention the years of time. I will have my pilot's license in the future. Just not anytime soon. I agree that it would be great to be the pilot too for these circumstances. But in all reality, how many dzo's can fly the plane? That should be a poll. Quade, send me money to get those 750hrs and I'll fly the plane. But thanks for your .2 cents.

Kris 0 #9 June 20, 2005 I know I've met very few DZO's who weren't also pilots. The vast majority had their commercial ticket and also at least a Senior Rigger rating as well as several instructional ratings.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

alw 0 #12 June 20, 2005 QuoteWhat would you do? Plan for the future . . . 1. Buy a good used refridgerator. 2. Hide it somewhere 3. Select one bottle from each beer dues cache 4. Stick "tax" bottle in hidden fridge 5. When pilot quits - drink beer in hidden fridge while telephoning prospects. 6. Repeat as necessary --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
clint 1 #13 June 20, 2005 They probably had their pilot's licence before the dz.
Beerlight 0 #14 June 20, 2005 If possible, keep more than one pilot in the stable...? And if it wasn't your fault, post a message in the classifieds telling every other DZ about the guy good ruck.........
clint 1 #15 June 21, 2005 We live in the desert in Utah. We are not a busy dz so bringing in a pilot is super hard. We know, trust me. I already did put a post in the classifieds. I just can't name names.
plowdirt 0 #16 June 21, 2005 wouldn't know if this was posted but, I 1) would fire him, just for good measure. and listen to where he's going to be next. 2) Call one of your DZ buddies who may possibly own a big DZ who may be able to help a brother out. 3) start working on that pilots license. good luck man
clint 1 #17 June 21, 2005 If I could find him, I would. I've put the word out to all the dz's. I plan on starting my pilot's license next year.
