This closet queen should stay there

Recommended Posts

At least the guy can tell his buddies about his rig and show it to them, that should be worth more than what he can sell it.

This is a real beauty...Cazer Eagle container (my nominee for ugliest container of all history), and the guy doesn't even know what canopy is the main vs reserve.

People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

HI Sun

Thanks for posting that :D:D:D:D

Wonder if thats a Jesus cord for the reserve (the round one[:/])

Lets me think about the value of this Gem:|

Container [:/]

Round reserve[:/]

Antique main canopy with unknown # jumps[:/]

IMO not worth the price of postage, but the ad is priceless:)
R.I.P.

I forget now, tell me again which year was it that skydiving gear stopped being about functionality,
an became a fashion show.

>But what does the phrase "closet queen" mean here?

Didn't you ever hear that old Billy Joel song?
-----------------
So you go to the village in your tie-dye jeans
And you stare at the junkies and the closet queens
It's like some pornographic magazine
And you smile

But Captain Jack will get you high tonight
And take you to your special island
----------------

But seriously, it's a takeoff on "hangar queen," a term for an impressive old aircraft that no longer leaves the hangar.

Got it. That was not at all the meaning that came to my mind. Thanks for the clarification.

I respectfully disagree. The original Mirage is the ugliest container of all history. :D

Some may have found the Mirage unattractive buit the harness was the MOST comfortable of it's day!!

Remember... At that time the effort was to make rigs as thin and wide as possible. They could hide behind the large wings of our jump suits. We were after light and low profile for diving after a base that had exited the a/c 10 seconds before if not more in some cases. Go fast, flare hard, dock soft. Racing in the back...The good old days!

My nominee: a Crossbow with floating main and reserve handles, plus both wooden main toggles trailing about 2 feet up.

No malfunction, but on that jump there were 6 other folks besides me who were wondering if we seeing the beginning of one. We just kept skydiving because there wasn't anything we could do for the guy anyway.

I think I know the alternate meaning you were thinking of ;)

I owned an original Mirage until early 2004. My last jump on it was in 2004. I believe it's being used for cutaway training in Georgia, now.

It was a lovely rig, functional and comfortable. And yes, it had a KXX reserve in it, which served me just fine. The reserve is decorating a pawnshop in Florida.

When I first got back into jumping I used it exclusively, of course. Whenever someone would give me a hard time over its fashionable bounce-n-blend colors, or the large U-shaped reserve flap, I'd just smile and say "I bought it new." No one ever said anything after that :)

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

No offense meant (I'm sure) and none taken. But what does the phrase "closet queen" mean here? Is this a new trendy insult?

I equate it to the equally-valid "trailer queen", used when describing a motorcycle that gets pulled from city to city in a trailer instead of actually *gasp!* being ridden.

In this context it means that it's a rig in generally good shape which, for one reason or another, just has not been jumped and has been collecting dust in the closet.
