Brian425 0 #1 May 31, 2005 So the last 5 or 6 jumps my left end cell has been a little slow to open. I posted here and asked around and was told that it is fairly common and could be the result of several things, mainly packing. The end cells alwyas inflated with a slight pull on the left riser with no worries. This Sunday I was going to spiral down a little and after my first spiral to the left, the canopy spun into line twist. It has never done this before and I had done some aggressive spirals before. It was the very first spiral, so it was not that it spun up on the transition from right spiral to left spiral. I looked at it and the packer looked at it and we saw nothing. Obviously I am off to my rigger to have it checked. Anything else I could check before I get it up to my rigger? The canopy is a Safire 1 189 loaded about 1 to 1. It was relined at Icarus about 25 jumps ago. Canopy has about 600 jumps on it. Thanks, Brian The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand. AggieDave 6 #2 May 31, 2005 I gave myself linetwists from an agressive sprial before, after that I quit doing agressive spirals below 3k, which is quite nice for everyone else in the pattern or setting up for the pattern as well. Anyways, sure have your rigger check it, you never know you might find something wrong, but both incidences can happen. Collapsed end cells are fairly common as are linetwists from very agressive toggle inputs.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Brian425 0 #3 June 1, 2005 I was told that both are common. It just seems strange that they were all on the left side. I'm still opening high due to my jump nubmers/skill level so the spiral was started at about 3.5k and I was out of the line twists at 2.5k. I thought for a moment about chopping it if they did not come out right away. For piece of mind, I'll get it checked. I figure for the cost of having the canopy checked, I will have a little more comfort. Thanks for the reply. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand. The toggles may be set higher than on the old line set so that for the same toggle position, you are pulling down more of the tail. BTW-PD doesn't make a 150 sq ft reserve. Brian425 0 #5 June 1, 2005 I tried the stern talking to Derek, it just did not listen. Maybe I'll just leave it in the corner, give it a time out. The reserve is a 160. Good catch, I never really went over the registration after I filled it out. Sorry. Brian The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand. johnny1488 1 #7 June 2, 2005 Hey Brian, havent seen you for a while. The end cells are usually a result of a slow opening, usually not a bad thing. As far as the line tiwst go, it can happen to anyone. Usually it can result from turning one way and then another or just a hard turn to one side. It probably came from the canopy turnong faster then your body could. I dont know if you know shelby but he put himself in linetwists last year below 1000 feet. Luckily everythin was fine but it could have been disasterous. Hope to see you at the DZ soon. ps leave the wind and rain at home. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!"
