Bogus Riggers

I don't understand why someone would lie in their profile. Unless this person has a small p#%&e and needs to make himself feel bigger by making up a lie.

I would call him out. Afterall, riggers work very, very hard to get that rating, and I have so much respect for the hard work they do, with such little pay. It's for the love of the sport that we have such good riggers.

I suggest you send him a PM and let him know what you found out and give him a time limit to change his profile. If he doesn't then treated to post the information you found. If he's lying to us, is he lying to the jumpers where he jumps and is packing reserves? Not cool>:(

I don't know who they are talking about nor the circumstances, but I do know of one jumper in this forum (who is also a moderator) that lists themselves as a rigger, and they are not. At one time they were but let their rating lapse years ago. Would you consider that wrong. I know others that list other ratings (tandem, etc.) that have lapsed and are no longer valid. I don't see a problem with that- they worked for and obtained. They rightly should be proud of those accomplishments, even if they choose not to maintain them.

A parachute rigger's rating does not lapse. You are a rigger for life. If you haven't rigged for 90 day, all you have to do to get current again is..........rig.

“f) Exercise the privileges of his certificate and type rating unless he understands the current manufacturer's instructions for the operation involved and has --
(1) Performed duties under his certificate for at least 90 days within the preceding 12 months; or
(2) Shown the Administrator that he is able to perform those duties.”

I was an AFF I/E, Tandem I/E, S/L I/E with a “D” license and a PRO rating. All have expired because I did not renew them or my USPA membership. I did not change my profile for two reasons;1 ) I earned the ratings and 2) When people check my profile to see who is posting information, they give me credibility I might not otherwise have even though my knowledge didn’t disappear on October 31, 2003 when my ratings did.

Not having packed reserves for a while does not mean someone isn’t a rigger or should not have their posts read as thought the information contained in them comes from a rigger.

Go here, punch in your personal info (or make something up if you don't want big brother watching) then you can search on name. The only thing I found for the name in your profile was a 3rd Class medical from 1989. I did find several local riggers, though.

So very right! Riggers tickets are just like pilot's tickets.

There are several on the forum that indicate they are riggers, instructors, coaches, etc. and they do not have the ratings from the USPA.

Where did you pull this info from. I fully believe you, but I am curious about the rest of the information in the whole text. I couldn't pull up the forms from the FAA's web-site. Thanks in advance Derek.

I think, if that's the case and you are really sure about it, that someone should be labeled and outted as a troll.

What if he has unknowing clients, and he's posing as a rigger, and it kills someone? What then? That could be very messy.

The original question was about people who have never held licenses claiming that they are riggers.

Hint the last guy who tried to pass himself off as a rigger in British Columbia, is no longer welcome on any DZ in the province.

When imposters are "outed," moderators should ban them from posting on the Gear and Rigging Forum.
This will encourage several people to clean up their profiles. For example, several people mention "lap" type ratings. I was under the impression that the FAA had not issued a "lap" type rating in 40-some-odd-years.

On the other hand, I have no qualms with retired riggers posting their opinions on these forums.

For example, just because I have not piloted a jump plane in a few years does not mean that I still don't know more about flying than the next hundred skydivers.

There is one, a DZO that lists lap, chest, seat and back Master and Examiner ratings. According to the FAA, he has a back senior rating:S.

If they list any rating that they don't truely have, they should be PM'd with that information and given the chance to update their profile. If they choose not to, reveal the situation to the masses.

Yeah, the one you are refering to is packing "under supervision" of his dad. Therefore his dad was signing off on the repacks.

Its easy to see if some one is a rigger in real life... look for their certificate and their seal. If they have neither, odds are they are not a rigger.

I've got probally 25-30 assists on repacks but have only been directly supervised on about 10. I've got those logged and I'm still studying under a senior rigger to get the rest of my ticket.

I heard stories of a guy in our state who wasn't certified and was packing reserves for folks. I think he failed the practical part of the test (sewing I believe). He's fully qualified now, but for a while he was rigging with a phony seal.

I retired from rigging years ago. Actually, I didn't know how to do much more than pack a chest reserve. At any rate, back in the good ole days, I was a rigger. I went to the web site given, but couldn't figure out how to get in. My old seal was MOZ. Just curious to see if I'm on there.....Steve1
