Terrified - not only was it my first pack job, but it was, also, my hop 'n' pop. QuoteHow'd it go? Fine. No issues QuoteDo you pack for yourself now? Most of the time. jumpjunkie2004 0 #27 May 3, 2005 That's amazing! On a hop 'n' pop! I suffer from "over-thinking" and "over-planning". It sounds like you just jumped right in and took a chance. My goal for the summer - plan less and be more impulsive. My next jump is supposed to be self-supervised tracking - maybe I should do a hop 'n' pop instead!Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... I think the only difference between jumping it from altitude or on a hop & pop is in the speed the planet is coming at you. ladyskydiver 0 #29 May 3, 2005 QuoteIt sounds like you just jumped right in and took a chance. I look at it this way - I take a chance everytime I jump out of an aircraft (actually anytime I wake up, I'm taking some kind of chance - be it driving to the DZ, walking onto the DZ, etc.). It was either going to work or it wasn't. I had faith in my instructor that taught me to pack. If it didn't work, I had a reserve to go to. If the reserve didn't work...well...hopefully a PLF did. Icon134 0 #31 May 3, 2005 one of the things that made it eaiser to jump my first pack job was the difficulty to put it in the bag... The thing just wants to fill with air..Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...
Darryn 0 #32 May 3, 2005 I was getting ready to jump my first pack job (on student gear) when I realized that another student had grab it and got into the plane. He was on a load before me. I was more nervous for him then I was for me when I actualy got to jump my own first pack job.
aftermid 0 #33 May 3, 2005 I jumped my first unsupervised pack job after a couple more or less supervised practice jobs on a windy day. It sat for a week before I jumped it. I was nervous until I actually jumped it. I would have been nervous but I was having too much fun. I've packed all of my jumps since (only 7 jumps). I tend to think about it on the way up but not once I get out of the plane. I'm getting better and better packing. Now it only takes about an hour for me to pack. Just remember you have perfectly good reserve
