Do you appreciate your Packers?

Recommended Posts

Been mulling the idea of having an annual packer/rigger appreciation day for the last month. I said something in ignorance about a the quality of someones pack jobs causing my off heading and diving opens. I got called on it and wanted to see what you all think.

With more jumps, more time listening, and trying a different canopy, I understand there are many factors which can cause this, not the least of which is me.

I hope I am in the minority in blaming my packer and for the record I appreciate the work they do. I could not do what they do. Having seen them slammed during a boogie, am impressed by their abilities. I personally, try to always do a combination.

Though the packer said it is not a big deal, I feel I need to thank packers in general for, quite frankly, busting ass.

TY,nobody worries more about the pack jobs that I get paid for than me.Always cking my work when I have the time.Mostly,my regulars treat me very well and know that I'm doing the best I can for them every pack job. With DST coming next weekend it will be start of the silly season where I stress a little more and will be "Extremely" busy and tired at the end of the day.Sometimes I'm so tired,I just want to go home take a hot shower, eat and sleep. But,they know I'll be back the next day ready to work my ass off for them again.

The "diving" your talking about is normally because the weight in the harness/your shoulders are not symetrical during the deployment....especially on a tapered canopy such as a spectre your jumping. Be easy on the packers...you might find yourself packing for yourself!!!:D

hi John--B|

I think having a rigger appreciation day would be cool, many times they do extra work, like my rigger didn't just pack my reserve, he assembled my whole rig together, my first one ever. I think a day of appreciation would be good, to honor their efforts, but I also think an everyday/ every weekend, whenever you use a packer/rigger appreciation/tipping is appropriate year round.
I love my rigger! :$ Thank you Spanky!!! :)

I bought a bottle of rum (his favorite) for my rigger after my first reserve ride. Now for good luck, I bring him one every time I get the reserve repacked. I always tip my favorite packer (SkygirlPC) Danielle. She's always does a good job, she's always smiling and she's so damn cute.;)

:$ Thanks Bob! :$

I am a packer at my dz, and as much fun as an appreciation day would be, who would do all the packing? :D Just kidding! I'm sure that your packer appreciates anything extra that you do for them. I love it when I get tips or even just a heart felt thank-you. I love it when I have somebody come and tell me what a good opening they had! Because, like someone else said i do worry about every pack job that I do.

Maybe we should make a "give your packer/rigger a hug" day! :)

I would be happy if people would show their appreciation to their packers by simply setting their brakes and cocking their pilot chute when they bring their rig in for a pack job. It takes them 2 minutes to do so, and when packing 30 - 40 rigs in a day 2 minutes on each one is a lot of time and extra work. Could mean a little break between loads.

My good customers take care of me with tips, drinks, lunch, etc. But overall i don't expect any of that. I'm getting paid to pack, it's my job. The appreciation is a bonus, but not required.
