Zep 0 #26 February 13, 2005 Here's a landing out true story, It's not funny not even remembering it after 14yrs Empuria Brave (pre Pete days and for those of you who dont know Empuria ask some one who does) Second load of the morning wheather overcast cloud busting with a ceiling about 3500ft normally no problem. So as usual on take off I look at the wind sock for a last check. Wind from the South, mentally thinking land facing the sea. Ride to altitude an skydive normal. Tee at three, track dump (must of been a Sparky jump) in cloud, Looked for the sun to orientate myself, cloud to thick, Not to worried as wind was from the south an I'm not going out over the town or to sea, now down to 1000ft an still cant see the ground, 750ft Now starting to worry, do I stay on heading or shall I slowly do flat turns, 500ft no ground Now I'm getting scared, No idea where I am, If I'm over the town near the beach I'm at the right hight to slam into a apartment block. I suddenly got the idea to start shouting may be get an echo or hear someone, no joy. 200ft Ithink I see something nearly directly below what the hell is it, shit now its gone. 100ft I see roof tops, I'm right over them, Now I can see more an more the road an small trees. In an instant I decided to go for the trees an landed saftley. For those of you who know Empuria I landed in the small wooded area the other side of the road just down from the petrol station. Belive me the fear of the unknown is a very real fear. I belive a couple of others on that jump had to go an shower quickly What went wrong. Mother nature, a thick sea mist rolled in, an the pilot giving us a short spot. Gone fishing
