jumping on pain meds

Recommended Posts

it depends on the person.

in my case, Vicodin knocks me on my ass. If I have to take it, I don't drive, skydive, or do ANYTHING.

in my brother's case, I've seen him pop two Vicodin and go out and play an awesome game of tennis or pitch a no-hitter. If he was a jumper, I wouldn't have a problem jumping with him if he was on Vicodin, because in his case, all it does is take away pain and doesn't impair function.

Pressure, both increased and decreased is a big influence on medication.

Altitude intensifies the effects of psychoactive drugs. He may be just fine on Vicodin on the ground. 12,500 feet is a bit different place.

And, imho, skydiving is a bit different than tennis or baseball.

Like I said earlier, I had no problem at all driving when I'd been on Vicodin and Soma 24/7 for a few months. Knowing that altitude intensifies a drug's effects (from personal experience), there's no way I would jump on any pain meds - wouldn't do it then, won't do it now.

After the reeming people got for saying that they'd jump on pot and now this... sorry, but pain pills are worse than weed any day, warning label should read don't drive, operate heavy machinery or jump out of an airplane while on this medication.

Never go to a DZ strip show.

Although I'm sure that you know your brother well, and have seen him perform sports while on pain killers. The circumstances are not the same as skydiving, infact are not even similar.. I don't recall the last time I heard of someone accidentaly killing someone else from a split second mistake while playing baseball or a game of tennis.

I doubt that is done in extreme pro sports like F1, NASCAR, drag racing, where the individual life is on the line.

I once read an interview with Dale Earnhardt SR. Apparently it's not uncommon for some of those guys, Dale included, to take a cocktail of meds before a long race. The article made mention of both pain killers and muxcle relaxers.
