skydived19006 4 #9 February 3, 2005 Well, you’re obviously being facetious. It’s been my experience that most (guess 90%) skydivers that make it to “A” will never make 1000 jumps before they quit. I don’t think that most people even really quit, they just put the gear in the closet one day, and it ends up being the last time they ever jump for whatever reason, but I’d say most are “burn out”. The next group makes 1000, which was a big, long time goal, then fade away. Also, my opinion is that the vast majority of skydivers that make 1000+ jumps are working skydivers to some extent. I know of very few skydivers with 1000+ jumps that have never got an instructional ratting. Most skydivers with 2, 3, 4000+ jumps have either been jumping and working for many years or are doing tandems, and or video at a “large” DZ. I broke 200 jumps in one year for the first time last year, and I’m a DZO, do half the tandems, half the video, put out IAD students, and once in a while make a fun jump, but then it is Kansas. So at the rate I’m going it would take 20+ years to hit 4,500 jumps. Get back to me in 15 years.Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. Tonto 1 #12 February 3, 2005 Well, your math is right on. I did 20 years earlier this week, and this weekend I should manage 4500. Most of my dives are from Cessnas in Africa. Up til 1000, I was in a 4 way team. 1000 to 1500 was in Kansas, El Dorado, mainly Tandems. Then back to South Africa, into a CRW rotation team training for the world meet, and Tandem and AFF. till 3000. Since then, mainly AFF until recently, when I started with Birdman. A bunch of big sequencial tossed in there, about 100 demos. I'm waiting for burn out - as its burned my friends, but I really like what I do - have many friends who are former students, and I've mixed it up enough to keep it interesting. Split an hour in the tunnel with my GF in Perris last month, so this year I hope to become a better freeflier. Always new goals, and the old one. Stay alive. tIt's the year of the Pig. Tonto 1 #18 February 4, 2005 Quote Not wishing to be mathematically pedantic or anything, Well, looking at the age thread - I'm in the top 15% I started this poll to see if I was in the top 15% for jumps too. Kinda a "dead reconing" to see if I'm still on the right road - which I think I am. I'm sorry if this is mathematically inaccurate. Perhaps you could define a poll to correct that shortcoming? tIt's the year of the Pig.

SkymonkeyONE 4 #24 February 4, 2005 QuoteI know of very few skydivers with 1000+ jumps that have never got an instructional ratting. Actually, these days I know quite a few people (with a lot of money) who have many thousands of skydives and no ratings at all. Bryan Moffet has over 5000 and no ratings. Stephen Lee (here at Raeford) has over 4000 and no ratings. It fascinates me that I have friends under 30 years old with over 10,000 skydives who either do not have or do not directly use "real" ratings. QuoteSo at the rate I’m going it would take 20+ years to hit 4,500 jumps. It has taken me 24 years to cumulate 4200 skydives, but then again I was in the army for 21 of those years and "grew up" on a Cessna DZ.
