cvfd1399 0 #26 January 11, 2005 Why do the video guys that are filming a tandem that is sitting in the back always sit at the door? When jump run time comes they are climbing over everyone to get out of the way to the back? I know of a few that take the runway shot with their cameras, but most of them just sit there in the way and never touch a camera.
PhreeZone 20 #27 January 11, 2005 Because most of them are getting other shots all the way up. Alti shots with the sky, the plane, close ups of the student, etc.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
rjackson 0 #28 January 11, 2005 I have been in aircraft in all of those configurations. My first thought is for benches with side by side seating. Couple of reasons for this: - Sitting on the floor facing aft is ok if the plane isn't full. I'm 6'4" and the way we pack people into planes I dont get much space and it damm uncomfortable. I feel really sorry for the small girl that I end up sitting in front of with my J5 in her lap. The other thing I dont like about this configuration is the tradition of getting everyone up off the floor, four or five grand before jump run. With the bench configuration I dont have get up until right before having to move to the door. - Side by side you do get "you own space" even though your packed in. I do agree with the person that posted about the last couple seats getting real small. The other thing no one has mentioned here yet is cycle time. I have heard, but havent seen the data, that it is faster to load an aircraft in a bench configuration than with floor seating. DZO's chime in here. Its comfort thing for me --------------------------------------------- Randy

Your seat keeps getting smaller all through the flight. this is especially bad on the skyvan, as you keep sliding closer and closer to the open tailgate... its easy to imagine dropping something and watching it zip right out the hole... or even someone jostling you and out you fall. diablopilot 2 #30 January 12, 2005 QuoteI would aggree they are comfy but they (FAA) made us remove them. Really? The ones we made for our bird at my old DZ were approved as flotation devices as the cores were made of styrofoam. I think we might have made the ones for your bird too.....---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. I've only been on one SkyVan that had an openeing even when the door is closed. Pilots don't like flying the "Box" with the door open, it kills WAY too much lift.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. FrogNog 1 #32 January 13, 2005 QuoteI like either of those options, but I DO NOT like sitting on the floor. I have to see out the window. That's why I prefer the floor: better window views (in C-182 and Caravan) than when sitting on side benches (in Otter). (Btw, those 3 aircraft types cover 272 of my 273 jumps.) It might have something to do with being 6 feet (1.83 m) tall. So, sign me up for preferring floor seating. Two rows all facing backward in the Caravan. Pile o' bodies in the 182. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
